It's 2 AM over here. About ten minutes ago, I was walking back to my dorm room and suddenly I see a ball of white light fall from the sky and land behind a hill in the distance. Then the entire back of the hill (where it logically struck the ground). lights up creating a silhouette of the hill. If anyone at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo saw something like this, email me immediately.

I really want to hike to where it crashed, but it was all the way on the other side of a huge hill that is probably 2 or 3 miles away. If someone contacts me about seeing the same thing, I am willing to make the journey.

obviously something crashed, you should go and see what it was, maybe a meteorite or a craft of some sort, I hope that you come back and let us know what it was after you hear anything about it,,

I agree with Geoff G. There have been times when people thought they saw a large meteor land just a few miles away, but the actual landing location was hundreds of miles away. Anyway, these things usually explode high in the air. The flash you saw was probably the meteor exploding high in the air a hundred miles past that hill. And it may or may not have left a few fragments that reached the ground. I was going to suggest you ask an astronomy professor, but it seems Cal Poly doesn't have an astronomy department.
(EDIT) A person from Lake Silverwood, CA. has reported sighting what may have been the same meteor. At least it is at about the same time. The first source is their question. What part of the sky did you see it in and what direction was it going?
I suggest you both go to the second source and report your sightings.

There are two possibilities for it:
1. A meteor- you must have seen a meteor ( a shooting star) which are coming from genimi now a days and the shower will be at 13th and 14th early morning. Maybe, a light from any function behind that hill may have came, resulting for you to think about something crashed. with a meteor at same time.
2. It can be a meteorite.. It can be a rock in space and it fell behind that hill with a great crash... If this is case, You must concentrate on news in newspaper...

It was a meteor that probably landed and became a meteorite. It is a common event on the earth and no need to be shocked. It would be cool if you could find it. If you take a metal detector you might have a better chance of finding it as long as it is a nickel-iron meteotite. If it is a stoney meteorite then your chances of finding it are not very good because they look like common rocks. Happy hunting.

What you saw was probably a fireball: a large meteor or possibly some space debris. But don't expect to find it behind the hill. It's virtually impossible to estimate distances of such objects, since you don't have enough data. It takes triangulation from at least two different locations to establish the track and potential landing spot for such objects.

I even have in no way considered the teach. I even have only considered previews and that i'm completely stunned by using what those mothers are doing to their little ones. The preview that have been given me became into the mum with the 15 month previous. I also have a 2 year previous and does no longer dream of doing that to her. i won't be able to help this teach. that's sickening in case you truly think of roughly it. I observed a verbal replace teach in the ninety's some opposition mom pushing her infant. It became into disastrous. The undesirable woman grew up hating her mom by means of fact finally, the mum became into attempting to stay with the aid of her daughter. I wish those parents could only permit little women be little women. that's totally unhappy that they decline to work out what they are doing to their little ones.
