Aristotle, Socrates and Plato were more scientists than philosophizers, but they called themselves philosophizers because that was what you called people who conducted mental experiments and thought deep thoughts about science called themselves. In that same respect Steven Hawking can be thought of as a philosophizer as well. Ideas like the Big Bang, and Black Holes are still theories, theories with ample proof, but theories non the less.

The philosophy of Aristotle was science and logic.
The philosophy of Socrates was to question everything, which made him dangerous to society (and that was why he was sentenced to death).
The philosophy of Plato was to follow that of his two mentors and math.

Back in Ancient Greek there was no field of science so it fell under the area of Philosophy. The work of Aristotle, Socrates and Plato brought it out of philosophy by coming up with facts and ideas instead of just ideas and theories on how to think. Logic is a pattern of thought that is based on facts and can be proven. Modern Philosophy covers topics like religion; the realm of what can’t be proved.

Aristotle
According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aristotle
“His thinking on physics and science had a profound impact on medieval thought, which lasted until the Renaissance, and the accuracy of some of his biological observations was only confirmed in the last century. His logical works contain the earliest formal study of logic that we have and was not superseded until the late nineteenth century.”

Socrates
According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socrates
“He is best known for the creation of Socratic irony and the Socratic Method, or elenchus. Specifically, Socrates is renowned for developing the practice of a philosophical type of pedagogy, in which the teacher asks questions of the student in order to elicit the best answer, and fundamental insight, on the part of the student.

Socrates is credited with exerting a powerful influence upon the founders of Western philosophy, most particularly Plato and Aristotle, and while Socrates' principal contribution to philosophy is in the field of ethics, he also made important and lasting contributions to the fields of epistemology and logic.”

Plato
According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plato
“Together with his teacher, Socrates, and his student, Aristotle, Plato helped to lay the philosophical foundations of Western culture. Plato was also a mathematician, writer of philosophical dialogues, and founder of the Academy in Athens, the first institution of higher learning in the western world. Plato was originally a student of Socrates, and was much influenced by his thinking as by what he saw as his teacher's unjust death.

Plato's brilliance as a writer and thinker can be witnessed by reading his Socratic dialogues. Some of the dialogues, letters, and other works that are ascribed to him are considered spurious. Interestingly, although there is little question that Plato lectured at the Academy that he founded, the pedagogical function of his dialogues, if any, is not known with certainty. The dialogues have since Plato's time been used to teach a range of subjects, mostly including philosophy, logic, rhetoric, mathematics, and other subjects about which he wrote.”

de@r gEntLe m@n,

Well i don't have any idea about Aristotle and his philosophy. But i do know about Socrates and Plato.

Socrates contribution to the world was that he explained that " justice does not only mean doing good to our friends or harming our enemies or pursuing our own interest. Justice involves the well-being of all people. Ensuring the well-being of the people includes giving each person his due."

And Plato explained that, " Doing ones duty according to ones status in life. According to him, there are 3 attributes of human soul-reason, spirit and appetite. For responding to these attributes, there would be 3 classes in a society :
The rulers, warriors or soldiers and the traders, artisans etc.

Justice in society will be when all the classes did their work without interfering with the other."

That's it...tc...sweet dreamz...bye...

Many, many, many, many, many contributions...

One thing Aristotle contributed to the world that people may not hurry to answer is drama. Poetics by Aristotle is one of the most influential texts on the craft of theater and storytelling. (Which today translates to film). His texts are still studied nowadays.
