When my husband goes working away I find it impossible to sleep no matter how tired I am - is this normal or is there something wrong with me?

Absolutely nothing wrong with you. My husband and I are the same way. My husband cannot sleep if I am not in bed with him. He'll fall asleep, toss and turn and wake up every few minutes. If I know he's in the house, for the most part I can sleep - but I do wake up once or twice if I "know" he should be in bed and isn't.
Sometimes I think it's because we've been together for so many years, other times I think it's just because we are so connected and bonded to each other. For us it's very normal - so I see no reason why it shouldn't be normal for you.

My husband is a Marine, we've been married for almost seven years, and he's spent up to 15 months at a time away from us.

However, even now when he has duty for a single night away from home I have a hard time sleeping. A lot of military wives also feel this way, so I would say it's normal. Once you get used to a situation it's hard to adjust to something different, especially something as personal and vulnerable as sleep.

I believe for this one I'm going to have to quote Dr. Robert Kelso from Sacred Heart Hospital.

The fact that he's a fictional doctors from the Scrubs television show is neither here nor there. ;o)

"She's a terrible snorer. Used to keep me up all night. I made her have the surgery. Course that only made things worse. Here's the twist. Now, whenever she goes out of town, I can't fall asleep without the sound of that gasping, wheezing woman lying right next to me. Trust me. If I ever met a Japan air stewardess who snores like Enid, I'd marry her tomorrow. But here's the point. You might find out that thing you hate so much, is the very same thing you miss when it's gone. "

Not that I'm saying you hate your husband. Merely making a point that it's a comfort thing of what you're used to.

Nothing wrong with you. I am having the same issues. My husband is working nights and I can't seem to sleep, so here I am on Yahoo at 4 in the morning. Sometimes I use Benedryl to put me to sleep. Good luck!

Notyhing wrong with you - some people are so used to having their husband around that they feel a little lost without his presence. I think you are very attached to your husband and that's why you cannot sleep whne he is not around.

it is normal, I have the same problem and I am divorced, ever sense she left I haven't gotten a good nights sleep, I lay awake thinking of the past or listening to the utter silence muttering to myself because there is no one to talk to. Feel assured though your plights are short, mine is never ending

No, I can never sleep either.
Watch a film, have a hot chocolate - or have a night out with the girls. Helps
