NOPE. NOT TRUE AT ALL.
What happened, is that about a decade ago, when Hong Kong was still being governed by the UK, the rest of China (Communist China, or Red China, for short) began to realize that it's vision of an economically superior communist society was going to be recognized for the myth that it most definitely turned out to be, by every Chinese citizen who wound having reason to travel to the supposedly-evil and supposedly-unsuccessful capitalist slavers in Hong Kong, that the US took the precaution of collecting several loans with various world-wide investors to the tune of many billions of dollars, and literally GAVE that money to communist china, with the idea that if several of the larger cities nearby to Hong Kong were infused with enough capital (mainly via the Chinese Government), to thereby begin a profitable trade with SOMEONE, fewer of the RED chinese would realize just how many lies they had been told over those four or five decades, and be just that much less likely to spark another revolution in China until ALL of China either began to prosper like Hong Kong, or until Hong Kong began to fail, economically, like the rest of China.
The US did so, because now that the Red Chinese Government is nuclear-warhead antiballistic-missle capable, neither the US nor any other country in the Free world, wanted there to be another revolution in China, with the risk some revolutionary faction gaining control of Chinese Nukes, and misunderstanding how to use them, wind up destroying any other country, especially the US, or any of our allies, in the process.
So, even though we import a WHOLE LOT MORE stuff from China without exporting hardly anything right back to them, it isn't that China owes the US that money, but rather that the US is much happier owing that money to those however-many investors (like my former employer, M.T.Chang, who took that very same opportunity to take his hundreds of millions of dollars worth of experience in computer manufacturing back to his native China, to help his relatives learn to prosper via capitalism just like he did) rather than risking world-wide devastation.
Sure, as long as the Chinese people still believe that their current economic success is due to their superior communist lifestyles, they are actually living one more lie being told them by their government, but, the rest of the world feels a whole lot safer knowing that they still don't know enough to become so angry with their governement that anybody winds up starting a revolution that you and I might wind up having to pay for with our own lives.

Many airlines fly to thousands of cities, handle millions of customers and billions of dollars pass through their systems everyday.....yet they're completely bankrupt.
I don't know if they borrowed any money from China but yes, America is a declining economy and pretty soon, China will take over as the main player in the world. Don't like it? stop buying Chinese built products, they suck anyway.

First, China IS a superpower.
And yes, we import from China much more than we export to China.
As a result of doing this for decades, we have a big trade deficit.
The last report I saw was the US is in debt approx. $9 trillion and China owns about 44% of that.
