Well, I'll admit I'm not sure if you're solving for x or what, but assuming you are...

Remember that before you can really do anything, you need to rid yourself of those parenthesis. Multiply through the 3 and the 2-x

3 * 2 and 3 * -x

Basically that's just 3(2) and 3(-x) -- you just break it apart and multiply accordingly, since the three is multiplied to -all- of the items in the parenthesis that it's next to.

Anyway, that'll give you 6 - 3x - 4. Do the same basic thing with the other side and that should get you going. Just keep an eye on whether the result will be positive or negative. Those can really screw you up if you're not careful.

step 1: clean up both sides of the equation by getting rid of the parenthesis: 2x + 12 = 6 - 3x -4

step 2: combine the 6 and -4 on the right side: 2x + 12 = 2- 3x

step 3: move all x term to the left side and the plain numbers to the right side by adding 3x to both sides and subtracting 12 from both sides:

5x = -10

step 4: divide both sides by 5

x = -2

step 5: check answer by substituting -2 for x in the original problem statement:

2(-2+6) = 3(2- (-2)) -4
or
8 = 12 -4

can i just help you solve the problem? i'm sorry but i find it easier than to just give you a hint.

2(x+6) = 3(2-x) - 4
2x + 12 = 6 - 3x - 4
2x + 12 = 2 - 3x
2x + 3x = 2 - 12
5x = -10
x = -2

hope i was able to help you...

First you need to expand the equation (multiply the 2 by the x and the 6, then the 3 by the 2 and the x), then isolate the variable on one side.

Then you should be able to solve it. Good luck!

distribute 3(2-x) then -4 and 2(x+6)

then move all the x's to one side and everything else on the other
