My brother opened a savings account for my sons first Christmas last year and he was 3 and 1/2 months, everyone puts $ into it for his birthdays and this christmas and buys him a very small gift until he is older and can understand the presents! It will be for a car when he turns 16,we already started a college/university fund for him when he was born.Get him teething rings, rattles, stuffed teddys,or even something he can use a few months down he road.If he takes soothers get some for his stocking. That is what we did for our son.Or even a saucer, he will most likely be in one in a few months!I hope I helped, this is a tough age because they don't understand any of it and you do all the opening!LOL!Best of luck and have a very first Merry Christmas with your son!

get him toys. he is going to start moving around soon and want things to hold onto so age appropriate toys will keep him and the parents happy.
Things like rattles, plastic toy phones that make noise and light up, bright teething rings, colourful blocks (peekablocks from fisher price have little things in side them that move or rattle) or maybe a play mat for him to lay on.
Ask the parents what they think would be an appropriate gift if you can't find anything.
And don't buy clothes, its so unoriginal and are used for such a short amount of time.
best of luck

Nothing too fancy. It's actually the simple toys that entertain them the most. Something black & white or with vibrant colors is good. But like I said, I wouldn't go overboard just yet. Most likely he will get or may have everything he needs for now, so even if you don't understand stocks (like me...) then maybe a savings bond would satisfy also. My kids get a $50 one every year for Christmas from my father, and even if it's not much now, it's a little something and it's better then having it spent on a toy or something that they will lose interest in after a while.
Good Luck!

somebody else only asked an identical question! understanding what to purchase for little ones could properly be troublesome! right this is my take: we are in an identical boat (our son is 4 months immediately. We desperate that considering the fact that he had each and every thing he truly needed and does not truly get Christmas fairly yet, we'd start up putting money away for him. We advised our family members this and on an identical time as many are going to get him presents for 6-9 months (that we are able to place away until then), many others are going to contribute to his decrease fee expenses. superb theory and can provide him a head start up! to help him understand and rejoice the season with no gaggle of presents, we are making a music to our son, showing him the tree, chatting with him approximately Christmas, taking part in Christmas music. He even had his %with Santa! better of success and revel in him this trip season!

I would buy him some toys for maybe for a 6 month old. He probably wouldnt use them now, but in a few months, you'll be glad you did. At 3 months, they still really arent into toys, my son will be 6 months on Christmas, and he is really starting to want to play with toys. Hes awake most of the day, and wants to play all day long.

Hand toys. 3 mos is around the stage where they know they want to get up and go, but they can't. Very hard to keep them entertained at this point. Little rattles or smaller toys for bigger kids that they will be able to hold (but not swallow or anything). Also, the Bumbo Baby Seat is nice. You can buy a tray for it to put those new toys on!

Our daughter will be 3 months on the 18th and we are getting her books, rattles, a play gym, and a babies 1st Christmas ornament. Just make sure you register any big toys you get them so if there is a recall they have to send you a letter in the mail saying so. There seem to be alot of those lately!

Why not make a donation to a local children's charity or children's hospital in his name. That's what i did this year for my son (he will be 7 months old) and he got a nice little certificate for his baby book. Also you could get some diapers in a larger size for later or some formula or breast feeding bags, perhaps a month of diaper service if he is in cloth diapers. At 3 months practical gifts are extra nice for mommy and daddy

One of my friends bought my baby this cute little fisher price toy when he was 4 months old and he LOVES it. It is supposed to be a set of keys. The "keys" are big yellow rubber teethers with different shaped gum massagers. They are set in primary colored key bodies. The top of the "key" ring is a chunky blue half circle that has buttons that you push and they make noises/songs. I love that it isn't very loud...and not annoying at all! LOL
The other thing I would suggest is teething rings...nice thin ones that would be easy for a little mouth to get around. I have found that a lot of them are so thick he can't quite get them in his mouth.
