You can just keep cutting it down, start by dividing 2 and keep going till you cant, like this:

170 = 2 x 85

85 = 5 x 17

17 is a prime number, cant factor it any more.

So it would be 2 x 5 x 17

Prime Factorization Of 170

2016-11-11 04:04:37 · answer #2 · answered by rudkin 4 · 0 0

To prime factorize a number we have to write it as a product of prime numbers. Prime numbers can only be divide by themselves and 1. We start by factoring the number into any 2 factors. Then I can factor these factors to get more factors until I get all primes.

170 = 17 x 10 = 17 x 5 x 2

17 * 5 * 2 is the prime factorization of 170.

Let's try another.

What is the prime factorization of 99?

99 = 9 x 11 = 3 x 3 x 11.

and another

What is the prime factorization of 189?

189 = 9 x 21 = 3 x 3 x 21 = 3 x 3 x 3 x 7

Ask yourself: "Is 170 divisible by 2,3,5,7,11, (all prime #s) etc..." Normally, testing 2, 3, and 5 is enough.

Now, since 170 is divisible by 2 we have: 170 / 2 = 85 which is not a prime number. We will continue to do this until we arrive at a prime number.

85 is divisible by 5 -> 85 / 5 = 17
17 is a prime number so you are done.
Your prime factorization of 170 = 2 * 5 * 17

170=2 x 85
85= 5 x 17
17=1 x 17, you stop there because seventeen is a prime number and you can't extract any number now...... so the prime factors of 170 are 2,5and 17

The prime factorization of 170 is a common denominator of 10 multiplied to 21st power divided by pie.

I am working for free on this crappy Yahoo gig. I cannot explain it any better than that.
