Christmas is coming up and I have no idea what to get for my dad. He litterally likes nothing aside from watching tv. He is 49 years years old. He does not like to go out, he doesn't rent or watch movies (becaue they all come on cable or movies on demand). Last year I bought him the season My Name is Earl, and it hasn't even been opened it (he has a DVR, so it's pointless now). But, he doesn't play any sports, he doesn't dress up for work or any other occasion, so ties and such are out of the question. I used to get him gift cards, but he never used those either...my mom would end up spending them. My budget at max. would be $200 If anyone can help please let me know. Thank You!

Get your mom and dad a mutual gift: A gift certificate to dinner and tickets to a play or concert or something. It will get dad out of the house doing something different, and I'm sure your mom will be especially grateful for that opportunity as well.

Make him a coupon for a "Dad and Daughter Date". Then decide on the date and what to do...dinner maybe? It would be a good time to just talk with him. And the coupon would let him know that you just want to be in his life.

Put on the coupon something like ... "Coupon good for a Dad and Daughter date on (whatever date) for dinner (or whatever)...cuz your daughter is more interesting than the TV". That will get the point across.

wow. my dad is similar but not quite that intense. he wears ties to work. i don't know if you are into creative/thoughtful gifts, but you could put together a really simple album/journal with photos...they could be anything. growing up or more present-day. i have found that my dad actually (very surprisingly) responds really well to personal things like this. you could also donate money to a good cause in his honor. on a different strand, you could get him slipper socks or one of those back massage things they sell at brookstone so he could enjoy his tv with a massage. that's all i got--good luck!

A remote control organizer. Hell, get him a new chair! A blanket or pillow for his chair. You could give him the money and tell him to put it towards the cable bill, or contact the cable company and see if you can pay a couple months in advance for him. And I thought my dad was hard...good luck!

Home baked apple pie? Food usually works. Watching telly is hungry work.
