I plan to spend x'mas and winter vacation at my university in the south b/c my family lives in another country and i just visited them in the summer and i cant afford to do it in the winter too.
So my friends craig offered me to go spend holidays with him and his family in nyc, which would be a lot of fun I assume. Since i cant afford the tickets, which are around $300, he said he'd chip in $200. But I cant seem to take myself to accept it. It doesnt seem right to me. I mean, i'd take it if craig was my boyfriend but we are good friends, just good friends. I cant take his money, right?
On the other hand, it's really tempting to spend the holidays with him instead of being on an empty campus alone all winter. What should I do?

If I were you, my self respect would forbid me from accepting any money just for spending a holiday.I would accept it if it was a loan which I am able to repay.I would devise ways and means to make my days meaningful though living alone in empty campus.

He offered, take it and spend the holidays with him You both will have a good time. You can tell him you'll pay him back if and when you have some money if that makes you feel better. Besides, he is just covering part of the ticket, not all. Go and enjoy yourself, its an opportunity for a fun adventure.

That's a decision that is completely up to you. Personally, I wouldn't be able to accept it, but that is just me. Odds are this friend may be offering to help you with the plane ticket, because he really cares about you beyond friendship and wants to spend the holidays with you. Something to think about...

Go ahead and accept the offer but tell him you will pay him back the $200 and actually pay him back. You shouldn't be alone during the holidays.

if you are really friend that's OK
and you say you can not afford this money this days
you have two choices
1- take the money but with agreement between you and your friend to return it back when you can
2- after you can afford that money buy to your friend some present as a thanks for his generous
other way if you are just a college friends you must think a lot on that really because It's in that case depend on your personal judgement and in my opinion you should not accept it if you are just a college friends
good luck

You're not really TAKING his money, you're allowing him to purchase a ticket for you. I say it's perfectly fine. My best friend flew me out to Utah to visit her last July and we had a wonderful time. If this person made the offer, you're doing nothing wrong by accepting it.
I say go! Visit your friend, have a wonderful holiday and a wonderful time. =)

Go for it, but make sure you have return tickets as well. There's nothing wrong with going as a good friend. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
You can pay it back later on.

If I have been on your place i might purchase commute coverage to your daughter's pal. commute coverage comes lots greater beneficial than merely the air flight out. the type of plan that i might purchase may be one that supplies for scientific scientific care if she have been to alter into ill or injured for the period of her flow to and if she have been heavily ill or injured might even furnish for emergency evacuation lower back residing house. those plans may be fairly low value. even regardless of the undeniable fact that the pal's mothers and fathers might have scientific coverage you are able to not be advantageous to what quantity it would grant coverage in the process the flow to. that's proper to be risk-free and to cut back any incentive that the mothers and fathers might might desire to deliver an action against you to get well scientific expenses.
