The entire State of Florida has been in drought condition for at least three years. The only thing that can help any ground cover is watering. Do not feed a stressed lawn!

Check with your local Extension Agent for the State and follow his/her advice.

St Aug responds very well to high nitrogen (first number) fertilizer. I dont like the fert. that mixes the weed control with the fert. You should water within 24 hours of fertilizing and neve cut 24 hours before or after fetilizing. I like to fertilize my lawn about 6 times per year, using a much higher potassium (third number) in the cooler months. Dont forget to put down some chinch bug killer from time to time, they will tear your lawn up. Lastly, be careful if you have the Floratam variety of St. Aug. Many weed killers that are safe for St. aug are not safe for Floratam variety. GOOd Luck, Hope that helped!

There is a great book put out by University of Florida. (See Link Below.)
On your St. Augustine grass, you can add Iron with a slight bit of nitrogen (This aides in uptake). Something like Ironite, or you can use a liquid iron product. As for irrigation (Depending if you have any restrictions), you should do a deep water cycle to insure ther fertilizer will be absorbed. Then water as normal.

Fl has a Dept of Agriculture which should know all about the care of St. Augustine grass. Write or call for a booklet. The may even have an internet site.

Dude...you live in Florida.
The best way to make your lawn greener is to move to Georgia.
