In a few months my 13 yr old daughter and I will be spending a day and night in Miami before our cruise leaves and I was wondering how safe it would be for us to walk in Miami? I don't mean walk the streets at night, I just mean go from our hotel a few blocks to grab a bite and see a few things in the afternoon. We are staying at the Radisson on Biscayne Blvd and according to Google Earth it looks like there are a few places right in the few closest blocks where we could eat on a more modest budget rather than overspending in the hotel dining room. Any advice?

Also, any advice on what to do while there that is walkable in that area?

You'll be just fine walking to close restaurants. I think Miami has developed an even worse reputation than NY's Central Park, but it's really not that bad at all. Hotel dining rooms suck and I've eaten Radisson food before. If you ever saw where it came from, (veggies from a can..I swear), and the prices they charge, I don't blame you for wanting to venture out. It'll be fun..
Good luck and enjoy your stay!
