I used to be good at them, but I've gotten more and more socially anxious as the years went on. Last semester I had to give a presentation for a final, and I actually began shaking! It was a total disaster. Please help me. What can I do to get over it???

Being adequately prepared and practicing several times will give you added confidence that you can complete your presentation.

It's ok to be nervous when presenting, many people are. Think of it as an acting job - you are an actress and you have lines to say in a play. You rehearse your part, you know it well, and you step onto the stage -- the play begins.

Before you start, take your time. Take a few deep breaths, inhaling and exhaling. Focus on your materials rather than the class itself, and that might re-direct your energy and you won't feel so anxious.

Explore the question - when was the last time I was able to give a presentation and not feel anxious, and what has happened since then. The WHAT is also the WHY, and once you identify it you might be able to examine it objectively and see if that is still having power to impact you now.

If it is really getting bad for you, your doctor might be able to prescribe something for you. But I recommend that only as a last resort.

It sucks I shake when I give speeches as well. I used to love getting in front of people but I had a teacher that critiqued me while I was giving the speech, which in turn made me burst into tears in front of my entire class. I start worrying as soon as the teacher announces that I will have to give a presentation...it is terrible. I also know that imagining people naked does not help and deep breathing does not either. Good luck!!

There you go your popular ? I challenge you to ask how many people you want, weather they notice any issues, and see what they say. Ask some practice Open ended questions to a friend that Can't be answered with a one word reply, such as, "What are the steps in holding conversations ?" Then closed ended questions when you find something of interest that Can only be answered with a one word answer, such as "Was that difficult ?" Then experiment with both types of questions to your liking. Good Luck. Best Wishes. Mars Mission Soon In A Galaxy Near Yours.. Source(s): Studies..

I suggest deep breathing, a hot shower and prayer or meditation. Practice in front of the mirror and know your stuff. Take some cards with a few notes. Try to be passionate, charismatic and persuasive. Do not cling to the podium.

scotgirl is right. The only thing to add is that you may be placing too much importance on this. Will you die if it goes badly? be exiled from your country? imprisoned at hard labor? If the worst you can expect is a bad grade, do your best and accept it. We're all not perfect, not even close to it, so do your best and have a little fun with it.

Dramamine the motion sickness medication works well. ONLY TAKE WHAT IS PRESCRIBED ON THE BOX!!!. For example If it says take 30 mins before traveling then take it 30 mins before your speech.
