Jay-Z.
He is iconic. He has released 3 classic albums (Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, The Black Album), and the rest of his discography isn't bad at all. He has character, and for a mainstream rapper, he has a underground flow, and a lyrical style that combines lyrical prowess with tales of the street. He has been around a while, and he will be around for a few years to come.

The best rapper(s) are the ones who rap about everyday life, not how much money they have or how many girls they've been with. I think the best example is Bone Thugs N Harmony. A lot of their songs are about things that happen in real life to real people.
