I would HIGHLY reccomend getting Keiichi Tsuchiya's Drift Bible and watching it carefully. At the end, he specifically says that you don't need any special aftermarket parts to start drifting. The only things you need is an FR (Front engine, Rear wheel drive) car with a Limited Slip Differential (not a viscous one!)
A lighter-weight car (around a ton) will be easier to drift (the correct way), so you might want to stick with an AE86 (mid-80s Corolla/Sprinter Trueno) or a Miata. A big V8 for a beginner will only give you a power-over slide and you'll miss out on the five other techniques. The more the car weighs, the more difficult it is to control a drift. Same thing goes with power.

i recommend an inexpensive (ie old) rear wheel drive car with a limited slip differential. the easiest ones to find are Nissan 240SX and Mazda Miata
you don't need any parts to start drifting, but you will need a lot of money to replace parts that you will wear out (such as the differential and tires)
Also, start off in a parking lot or a road with a lot of space on either side.

basically you're gonna need a rear wheel drive car. and depending on your budget it might limit which cars you can choose. a good car to choose from should be cheap and have lots of parts. nissan 240 are a good start as well as 86 corollas. those two cars are cheap, take alot of punishment, and have lots of parts for. you dont need any real parts for the cars which is whats cool about drifing, just car handling skills and a rear wheel drive car.
