The gov't spouted 'look how socially conscious we are' after moving in to help rebuild and aid Malibu after the fires. It's the old story that the rich just get richer, as with Iraq, it's the oil company bottom line that is important, therefore the money is spent to rebuild the infrastructure there to keep the pipeline flowing. The official word is that 'we learned our lesson after Katrina and now we're working in California'. I have to question would they work 'just as hard' if it had been Compton that burned instead of the mansions on the hill. I see where your are going with the whole NOLA thing, and yes it is a black and white thing, but I think the NOLA residents are viewed as red, as the only black those in power want to see is the bottom line on a sheet of white ledger paper.

I suppose if one were honest they would just call it like it is. Iraq and the middle east have a whole lot more significance to the United States than does a disaster ridden region with very little economic contribution to the economy in comparison. You can make it a racial issue by pointing to demographics etc. but you can't avoid the economics of the situation. In reality New Orleans and the entire gulf have received substantial economic aid, most of which has been squandered by corruption at the local level.

Because Republicans are in control, and the FEMA cheif was a Republican.... therefore any type of social spending even disaster related is bad, unless the money is destined for another country.
Example: Iraq and Afghanistan both have universal healthcare for all citizens paid for by the US war fund. This is a little known fact, that the right will deny, but none the less it's true.
We've built over 100 free hospitals, free schools, rebuilt mosques that were damaged by insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan....but our bridges are falling on us.
It isn't right...and I think you were hinting at a racial problem for not getting aid soon enough.....but you are wrong. Its a class problem...because Orleans is not exactly a hotbed of rich Republicans is it...?
Another example. Hurricane Charley in FL... I was here, I saw it all. Bush flew to FL to survey the damage...and the only place he actually went was Sanibel Island...home of the elites who have a 10000 per plate lunch with Jeb and George every year... Meanwhile the poor towns in Arcadia and Punta Gorda were demolished and he didn't even mention them.

Over $116B has been allocated by the federal govt for New Orleans recovery. That doesn't count insurance money, charity, private investment.
You can argue about the waste in Iraq and Afghanistan but please NO and LA have to get their act together.

Considering that the States next to LA are rebuilding and making progress, while NO is making none even with all the money we sent there your question is not relevant. If you want to consider "social responsibility" think about the fact that over 100 million dollars in Federal money was used to rebuild the Super Dome in NO. I don't think that was responsible of the State or the City.

I don't see that they are ignored by any means, plenty of money has been given by our government. Why the same corrupt people were elected back there is beyond belief! What did you expect? Mississippi had just as much devastation, but the difference in progress and attitude is really telling.
