x²-4x+6=0

It's already in the form
ax²+bx+c=0
a=1, b= -4, c=6

The Quadratic Formula
x = {-(b) ±√[(b)² - 4(a)(c)]}/[2(a)]
Substituting
x = {-(-4) ±√[(-4)² - 4(1)(6)]}/[2(1)]
x = {4 ±√[16 - 24]}/2
x = {4 ±√[-8]}/2
x = {4 ± i√[8]}/2
x = 2 ± (i)√2

x^2-4x+4-4+6=0 using completing the square
(x-2)^2=-2
x-2=sqrt-2
x=2+-isqrt2

x = [ 4 ± √(16 - 24) ] / 2
x = [ 4 ± √ ( - 8 ) ] / 2
x = [ 4 ± i 2 √2 ] / 2
x = 2 ± i √ 2
