The concept of imperialism is historically important because Empires are often large, and effect a much greater number of people, making a deeper impact in history.
Yes, the United states is an Empire, and has been since the 1899, during the Spanish-American war, and then again during the Mexican-American War, Vietnam, ect. These are all wars of expansion, where America attempted to expand it's territory and or influence. Pull up a map of US military bases, and the truth becomes pretty obvious. Any country that we have fought within in the last 100 (if the US won) has a Military base permanently stationed there.

1) history is the story of power relations over time
every country has been colonized to some extent
imperialism has made all countries dependent thus making world smaller

2) Yes, the US is an unusal case of a imperialist. For centuries we were colonized and under the power of the crown. The US overthrew our masters and the British powerful empire began to crumble. The US became successful and began to colonize other countries (Panama Canal,Puerto Rico, Guam, Philipines) thus they become more powerful bc colonies must function in support of the colonizer. The US has built a Empire that exists to this day. It really has become the ultimate Empire bc of its influence in the world and it has no real competition. The US is the most powerful nation in the world and all other nations are dependent.

3) Imperialist Nations
-there are too many; most countries can fit this in some way
(naming the biggest throughout history)
France, England, United States

According to Merriam Webster Imperialism is: 1: imperial government, authority, or system 2: the policy, practice, or advocacy of extending the power and dominion of a nation especially by direct territorial acquisitions or by gaining indirect control over the political or economic life of other areas; broadly : the extension or imposition of power, authority, or influence
The U.S. is an imperialistic nation under this definition. Examples of imperialistic ventures: Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming), Gadsden Purchase, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Guam, Virgin Islands, Phillipines, American Samoa... Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Imperialism has been important in expanding Euro-centered influences outside Europe. These have included economics as well as politics. They have also included culture and religion.

The greatest single modern example of an imperialistic power is probably the British Empire, which expanded English influence to the New World, to Africa, Asia, and Australia.

England was absolutely dependent on its Empire for its power in the 19th Century. Other empires have also been important.

The United States is not an imperialistic nation in the purest and most literally defined sense, but it has had many characteristics of an empire. Most of this has been de facto, rather than a literal empire.

U.S. influence has expanded world-wide, largely due to participation in the Spanish American War and World Wars I and II. Although the U.S. has shied away from building a colonial empire, post World War II occupation of Japan and Germany in many ways resembled colonies.

There are a few U.S. territories which are colonies in all but name. These include Guam, the Northern Marianas, and the Virgin Islands. Some would also add Puerto Rico. All of these are sovereign U.S. territories, but are not states or part of states. All residents of these territories are considered U.S. citizens.

If you look this up on your own you'll remember it longer.

I survived for a while on completed study guides from my classmates and don't remember any of it, but I remember what I learned on my own.
