I just call my stepdad Mitch, 'cause we were kinda like best friends when I was 10 (when he met my mom). Night he died, I asked him if I could call him "dad." He said he had been waiting for me to ask that, but he was afraid he might take my biological dad's place. I was like, "C'mon! I never grew up with him! He left us, and you have that right!" He died unexpectedly--ulcer! I regret never having been able to call him dad--just Mitch.........

Commander, doesn't matter, no offense to your heart-breck, would of been nice, but the best thing you can do for an individual is show how they have giving you stength, direction, and purpose, everything else is just pretty trapins...

I'm really sorry that you lost your stepdad. I'm glad, though, that you guys were able to talk about this before he passed away.
It sounds like you both had been thinking about this for awhile, and he knew that you loved him and thought of him as a father, even if it wasn't said out loud until later in your relationship. It sounds like he was a great father figure and that he loved you a lot, no matter what you called each other.
