who out there thinks that it would be the decent thing to do for the aussie worker to stop taxing over time at a higher rate? people work their gutz out as it is. by doing over time they have less sleep, less leisure time, less family time but are taxed more on those dollars. that does not make sense and nor is it decent. come on Mr Rudd make my vote count and really do something for the workers and thier families!!

Kevin Rudd must coordinate with the Legislature to lower the tax on overtime because people want to earn more by working more but not to be taxed more.

You should have asked him that before you elected him! Too late now! In fact, Kyoto targets will hit the hip pocket of every consumer- but again, our Kev wasn't too forthcoming about that during the campaign. It will impact significantly on power generation, exports (resources like coal especially), food, fuel, etc etc.

But I assumed that all voters understood that that would be the cost of tackling climate change, and the only other way to help out is to lower our consumption (recycle, make do with less, turn off air cons, reduce car use etc). You won't be getting extra money, but you will get increased costs so will need to tighten the belt somehow.

The marginal tax rates have been falling for the past 5 years and if labor keeps it's promised tax cuts they will continue to fall for the next 4 years.
This will make doing overtime more attractive as people will be taxed at a lower marginal rate.
Lower income tax will also encourage more workers back into the market, especially women who only want to work part time.

Overtime is taxed at the same rate as other income, it may appear to be taxed more heavily as the tax free threshold has been exhausted by normal time income. The extra income from overtime may also push workers into a higher tax bracket meaning that a greater percentage of the extra income is taxed.

With signing of Kyoto Rudds quoted as saying "Rudd says to prepare for higher prices 7News Sunrise News - Tue Dec 04 08:00am EST Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has warned Australians to prepare for higher power, fuel and food prices as the nation moves to a low-carbon future" Some how I don't think that he will reduce tax as other costs of living are passed onto the consumer.

Look mate, If your not bright enough to make up your own answers, get over it. All you are doing is looking infantile. When you plagiarised one of my other answers I thought you were a school kid. Get a life...Labor have won fare & square........Let it go.

It is hard to believe that Labor is in power, anything will be better than J. Howard . After 11yrs. he's created a false image for himself and deliver nothing to the working families of Australia. He has already 30 Million Dollars debt to the advertisement bosses and he would have pay it back with our tax monies. Now that Maxine McKew has kicked him out .Kevin 07 can get on with repairing the damage!
