To be politically correct, you might want to call that re-distribution of wealth.

No it isn't. I just like living life with enough money to have groceries on the table. If I had to pay 1/2 my paycheck in taxes, we would surely starve.

Because we have to pay off our debt. Simple as that.

Last year, we paid out $406 billion in interest alone on the debt, much of that to foreign creditors. For some perspective, that is more than the spending on Departments of Homeland Security, State, Transportation, Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, Education, Energy, Army Corps of Engineers and International Assistance combined (the combined total is $30 billion short of the interest payment).

Image the permanent tax cuts that could come from knocking that payment off the books each year. Given the latest figures of 146 million working Americans, that is $2780 per worker the government has to pay in interest.

We need to start thinking more long term in order to ensure our long-term financial health.

But it's the middle class that put the Democrats back into power, in the 2006 elections. After the 1994 Republican Revolution, the GOP held the middle class in its pocket until issues such as the Iraq war, climbing fuel prices, economic disparity, and immigration caused the middle class to abandon the conservative platform. Sometimes huge tax cuts for the wealthiest elite can be just as off-putting as new taxes or increases.

But for all intensive purposes, the War and the economy are what's hurting the GOP, and they've even lost the support of evangelical Christians and much of rural America. The middle class is barely a factor anymore.

so you speak for liberals ?

seriously.... you don't honestly believe that anyone really wants to pay MORE taxes do you ?

I don't care who you are...nobody likes tax. You're perpetuating a falacy. The middle class is full of both liberals and conseratives alike...and we're all getting screwed.

It's time everyone start to realize that the income tax scale is designed to keep the middle and lower class exactly where they are. Short of winning the lottery you can count on things getting worse or staying about the same when it comes to personal wealth.

The reality is, the rich control this country...because money controls this country. Our representatives do represent us, they represent the highest paying lobbyists. Until that changes, you can look forward to paying more taxes consistently every four years, regardless of who wins the election.

particular, that's it. we could such as you to pay taxes so we are able to sponge. that's all an evil Liberal conspiracy theory; you pay 50% tax on your job as a binman, or burger flipper, or despite sh*tty jobs backwater trailer park conservatives do. That'll help to subsidise my suffering existence as an knowledgeable place of work worker in a FTSE one hundred corporation. Cheers for that. No-one likes paying taxes yet i do no longer grudge it, it helps every person. fairly than hording my money, which might help only me.

Maybe so they can get an education and learn how to spell big words like torchure (torture?) or maybe even how to use spell check.

The republicans are responsible for your paycheck going down. They've been in charge the last 12 years.

Wrong, Republicans make it easy on the wealthy while putting burden on the middle class and poor. Republican policies result in increased wage gaps and increased cost of living. You're paying more right now because everything costs so much more; the buying power of your dollar is weaker. Liberals fight to make life easier for the average American - Conservatives like to tempt voters with meager tax cut promises that don't even make up for the increased costs that come from their policies.

To the best of my knowledge none of the candidates have suggested stopping taxing anyone regardless of their income.

What the democratic candidates are proposing is removing some of the tax breaks that were given to the wealthiest taxpayers to allow them to pay taxes at the same rate everyone else pays.

Hey fella - We wouldn't be in the mess we're in financially if it weren't for the Republicans who reduced taxes especially for the rich. We owe billions in interest on the debt we have. Time to wake up and smell the coffee.

higher military spending requires someone to pay for it.

"Read My Lips....No new taxes" wasn't a catch phrase coined by a liberal.
