Hello all!
So I recently upgraded my operating system from Windows XP Media Center, to Windows Vista Home Premium. Everything went smoothy, except for the fact that my speakers no longer function, and in the bottom right hand corner by my clock there is a speaker with an X through it and when I hover over it, it says No Audio Output Device is Installed. I've tried almost everything I can think of... My laptop model is HP Pavillion dv5000 with Altec Lansing speakers, any help would be much appreciated!!!

Yes, thank you for the suggestions so far, I have tried all of the driver install packages from the hp website, however, none of them work. They either say cannot find media, or they just wont install... any ideas?

Go to the HP website www.hp.com
Enter laptop model in search box, click search
It should give a link to drivers and downloads
See if they have Vista drivers for your laptop, if so grab ALL OF THEM, and make sure laptop has ALL the correct drivers installed.
Can't find em ? COntact HP support and ask

go to hp.com and search laptopmodel drivers.
Click the link that has drivers and your laptop model in it's title. If there is no link that says windows vista, click windows xp. Download the xp sound and grpahics driver.
Right click on the downloaded file, and click properties, and compatibility, set to windows xp sp2.
run the downloads and install. reboot and sound should work.
