Old CRTs used to suffer extreme "burn in" newer models less so
LCDs "officially" do not list burn in as a problem, but I have seen LCDs and Plasmas with image residue left over. Esp in offices using 42" plasmas always on the same news channel, the news channel logo gets etched in.

Still use a screen saver !
