Absolutely! All the climates and micro climates around the world are affected by the movement of airmasses and ocean currents on the global scale. Global warming is going to cause there to be drastic changes to these currents. We face a much bigger problem than simply warming up by a few degrees. It is a huge problem for everyone on the planet. And because this is a problem the whole world faces, it should be a problem the whole world solves collectively! In order to get as many nations to participate in creating a soluton we need to have a global organization dedicated to this cause. All nations involved must be comitted to finding a resolution and rallying the support of their citizens in order for it to be successful. I definately support a global environmental organization.

There is no specific organization that is entirely devoted to the environment, on the international scale. While we have NGOs like Greenpeace, etc. there are no functioning IGOs on the scene. All that we have is the Kyoto Protocol, which is about to lose its enforcement when it expires in the next couple of years and environmental agencies backed by the UN. We do need a stand alone environmental organization that should be tasked with protecting the environment and attempt to solve issues like climate change and deforestation. If it is set apart from the UN, then the P-5 members of the Security Council would no longer have their sacred veto power and we could acctually get something accomplished. I think its a great idea, but would it ever happen? Who knows?

We--the 99% of poor peoples--need this agency about as much as we need a bullet to the skull. In fact we--that being again the unwashed masses--need any of the United Nations mamba about as much as we need to be poisoned--no very much at all.

world contagious disease organization maybe. Put Federal money towards buying an island where people with contagious disease can be quarantined until there is a vaccine, or cure. I'm for that.

Well, somebody's got to keep the newly industrialized countries from making things any worse, and most of their governments sure aren't going to do it.
