Ok. Well I've asked a few question a few weeks ago about c/sections as I might have had to have one. I tore BAD with ,my daughter and got stitched up HORRIBLY. Which in turn has left me with a very sore, tight, thick scare that goes 3/4 the way around my opening(sorry, I know) Any way I have decided NOT to have a c/section. My doctor said he would do an episiotomy (double one maybe, on both sides of my bottom hole). Once the baby is born I will go into theater and have it fix and stitched up PROPERLY this time. I have to have a spinal block for them to do this. My question is. Would you just go ahead and have the spinal block during labour? What are they like? I'm SO scared about having one, sticking a needle into my spine. YUCK. But in the end I'll have to have one any way. Any help would be much appreciated. Thankyou

Danielle: That's what I'm worried about, not breathing properly and being totally numb from where ever down. Sounds SO scary.

cj g: I HAVE to be cut as the scare does NOT give even a little. If I was left to tear naturally it would be disastrous and be in every direction. I know, birth is so rewarding. I REALLY loved the birth (pain and all) of my daughter. I just thought I have to have one so may as well have it in labor, lol.

Oh well, it's kinda scary... I held on TIGHT to my nurse and cried a little but that's to be expected. Once the spinal goes in, your feet and legs start to tingle first and then get completely numb to where you can't move them. Then, the numbness moves up to your chest. What felt the weirdest is that it seemed as though I had to think to breathe because I could barely feel my chest rising or falling. It wears off in about 2 hours. I have to go for another c-section and this time, I'm not going to on any drugs beforehand. I'm just going to go right in. :( But you know it's worth it because you won't feel any pain at all! I don't have back pain now, either, like epidurals have been rumored to leave. Good luck and I hope this helped!

PS You'll probably shake a lot because you're nervous and because of the spinal. They'll give you something to stop the shaking if you like it. I didn't like it so they took me off and I just shook the whole time through recovery up until I was back in my room! It was a really unforgettable experience for me.

I had an epidural, and two spinal blocks... for my son. Three pokes in the spine. The epidural I had during labor. I had both spinal blocks when they decided he was too big to come out naturally (10 lbs, 6 oz)... the first spinal didn't work, so they had to stick me again. To be honest at the time it wasn't really anything. After my son was born I had bumps on my spine like mosquito bites, but they healed up. I don't know about where you are from, but here they won't do spinals when you are in labor if you are delivering natural. It numbs your bottom half so you can't push the baby out. But, getting poked wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be, I really didn't feel anything at the time, and I am a scaredy cat when it comes to needles, I hate them!! If you are really nervous about it you should talk to your doctor. She/he should be able to explain exactly what they will do so that you'll be prepared for it. Good luck w/your pregnacy and delivery :)

Considering that each and every females, being pregnant & supply is distinctive, it is a well factor we've got acquired Y!A;) Talk along with your physician approximately letting you cross usual, however having again up when you difference your brain! In my case(s), exertions used to be the worst aspect!! But I used to be brought about each instances. Inducing makes the exertions contractions plenty worse, considering that it isn't usual. But, regularly, whilst matters cross evidently, exertions will also be WAY an excessive amount of to manage. Do you ever watch Baby Story on TLC? If no longer, you will have to! I've noticeable females on there do the water start, residence start, ect. With my 2d, I had an epidural, nevertheless it wasn't pumping sufficient meds by way of considering that it used to be installed too early. It helped with the primary aspect of my contractions, however at supply, I felt the whole lot! Sure, I commonly felt LESS then I might have evidently, however I cannot assume having performed it without any meds! NO WAY!! With my first, after I acquired the epidural, it used to be a fine revel in. It freakin harm, however of direction it is going to. During pushing, it appears like burning, stretching...It's uncomfortable! But recollect:The HARDER you push, the FASTER child will get out! And as soon as child is out, it is like, not anything else concerns. But it isn't over then. You nonetheless have got to 'provide' the placenta. No one instructed me that. And each instances for me, it harm. Good success to you! I might quite don't forget the epidural!!!!

I'm not sure where you live but I got to go home in 2 days with the epidural...and it does not hurt the baby. You cannot become paralyzed either, so relax, get the epidural and enjoy being awake and comfortable during your labor. You've earned the right after 9 months of pregnancy.

I would have had the epidural to have my second one the minute they admitted me into the hospital if they would have let me. I actually wanted one the whole nine months.... but they wouldn't let me do that either. LOL Seriously though.... Do the epidural as soon as you can. Save yourself any pain you can, while you can! I think it's just the thought that scared me more than anything. Once it was over with, it didn't seem that bad, and I didn't have to hurt anymore. Makes everything a little easier. Good luck and congrats!!!!

Yes have it during labor it makes it sooooo much easier on you and after all you do want the birth of your child to be enjoyable not painful. And epidural doesnt really hurt anyways , getting your IV will hurt more than the epidural. Good Luck

I would not get any medicine, or a c section or an epidural... I have four kids and they all came naturally.. Yes it hurts lots but, you have the joy of going home one to two days later! If they have to cut you make sure you have a doctor that knows what the are doing you should not have a tender scare and they shouldn't have to cut you that much, once you are dilated your body know what to do, but if the doctors rush your labor then you will rip or have to be cut! So tell them not to rush you, and you should be able to handle the pain with breathing and relaxation techniques! Hope this helps...

i had a spinal, and i was terrified. It was not nearly as bad as i thought it would be, felt just like it would feel getting a needle anywhere. I think the IV they put in my hand hurt worse than the spinal

What you went thru is WAY worse than the epidural. You feel a prick of the needle with the local numbing agent...then its just a little pressure in your back when they really do it and you're rockin it. Nothing to worry about!

If you have to have an epidural for surgery, you might as well have one for labor. Obviously, you've been through it once before and I never have, so it's odd for me to give you advice, but I'm in medical school and I've learned about lumbar punctures (never actually done one) and I think it's a pretty routine procedure. I am planning on getting one if/when I ever get pregnant and go ino labor. But like I said, if they're going to give you one anyway, you might as well get it early enough that it reduces your labor pain!
