Ocean Corp? Is that the deep sea diving training school on Wilcrest?
If it is, the area around it not so good. Loaded with apartments but they are getting ran down. Doesn't the school have housing help?
I would head south on Wilcrest and start looking around Stafford to Sugarland. Wilcrest turns into Murphy Road. There used to some smaller trailer parks on Murphy Road that were pretty safe if you can do the trailer thing.
If not, try Sugarland. It's a bit farther but a heck of a lot safer(Sugarland was just voted the fifth safest city in the US). You may luck into something in that price range there.
Another thought is the weekly suite hotels. They run more around $150+ a week but no long term rental. There are several along US59 towards Sugarland.
There are many apartments along Bellaire Blvd, Beechnut, and West Bellfort (all near Ocean Corp). The ones on Beechnut are pretty messed up. You might try one over on Eldrigde Parkway near Memorial. Chelsea Court comes to mind, it used to be safe.

The area around there isn't horrible, but it's real hit and miss. It's going to be about in that price range. Your best bet is to talk to an apartment locator. They know the best complexes in terms of management. There is a really nice complex that is underpriced for what it is on Briar Forest, almost to Highway 6 called Signature Palms. There is another nice place on Richmond at Kirkwood. There are a few nice places around there, but a few that aren't so great.

I would stay outside the Beltway, since inside the galleria is more expensive and most of the areas are more run down for the money. Just stay north (or along Richmond). And go a little further out towards 6 to get some nicer places.

i've got been in Houston in view that 1984. regrettably Uptown Park is solid close to my workplace and there is not something handy approximately commuting there from everywhere in Houston. I stay interior the northwest part of, close to The Woodlands. The commute from Sugar Land (SW) is a actual undesirable force, Katy (W) isn't terrible, yet not actual solid. The Woodlands (NW) isn't actual solid the two. Your perfect guess could be to look for homes interior the Heights section. once you are going to spend that money interior the Woodlands, could as properly be close and spend almost an identical quantity interior the Heights and force against rush hour to Uptown Park and have a plenty greater beneficial day. i could sidestep Cypress (WNW) section because of the fact the commute in on 290 is extremely terrible.
