The occupant inside a rotating space habitat of the future feels that she is being pulled by artificial gravity against the outer wall of the habitat. Which statement is FALSE?

1. Centrifugal force causes her to move in a circular path

2. At every moment her tendency is to move in a straight line path

3. The floor provides the centripetal force to keep her moving in a circular path.

1. Is false.

You do not even need to consider the other statements to know that 1 is false. Centrifugal force is being treated as though it is an actual force, that automatically makes it wrong. But if you were to consider others you would find they are all true.

2. Is true based on the law if intertia. At any given moment she is actually moving in a straight line, but only for an instant. But should the centripetal force suddenly cease she would go in the straight path in the direction she was facing a moment ago. You can easily prove this to yourself by spinning sometihng around and then letting go of it.

3. True. At any given moment she has a tendency to move in a straight path. But she does not, that is, her velocity changes every moment which means she is accelerating. But there're no unconvential forces in this system so the only thing that could be providing the acceleration is the only thing in contact with the occupant: the floor.

4. True. This is the mechanism by which the floor provides acceleration. The friction between the occupant's feet and the floor always acts in the direction opposite of her motion (her path).

while an objec travels in a around action centriptal stress is the stress in the direction of the middle of the circle. there's a mix of two forces the centriptal and the tangental stress. the tangental stress is in a direction ninety levels to the radius. basicaly once you chart the action of an merchandise traveling in a circle you progression one step perpindicular to the radius and an equivalent step in the direction of the middle. the centripital stress is what retains the object in a loop as a substitute of moving into a right this moment line. in case you had an merchandise on a string orbiting a important factor and shrink the string the object would not bypass out fron the middle yet in a direction ninety levels from the radius on the on the spot that the string is shrink. centrifugal stress is a "percieved stress" it incredibly is what you experience because of the fact the oposite and equivalent stress to the centriptal stress. once you're taking a left sharp turn in a motor vehicle and experience pulled to the right that's called centrifugal stress. if seems such as you're being thrown outward from the middle of the curve yet certainly what you experience is the tangental stress that would carry you in a right this moment line perpindicular to the path in the direction of the middle of the curve which might throw you out in case you hit the brakes or if the door opened. it appears like it incredibly is going out because of the fact the path is consistently changing.

1, centrifugal force is not a real force, it is the precieved force caused by the tendancy of an object undergoing acceleration in a different direction to try to continue in the direction it is originally traveling in.
