smart has several faces. there's bookish smart, street smart, love smart and so on. you have to be something smart yourself. that's the law of nature.
smart people not necessarily do well in life, they are usually hindered by their heightened awareness. so be happy, you seem very smart from the question you just posted.

To stay off the ~please don't say~ list I may walk all around those answers - but I know you know that is right where we'll be heading. However... let's talk about how people learn - we may be able to find an alternative that you enjoy a little more - or a form of learning that you absorb more readily. There are all kinds of different ways that people can learn - you can use every sense you have. I am a person that learns by doing, and although I am surprised, I am also an audio learner. There are a couple of different places on line that can help you to identify your personal learning style. Almost everyone learns well though association. I use association when I am cramming for tests - works great. The only sad thing is I may not keep the material in my head for long.
Some people have brains that are hardwired to absorb and learn very quickly and with little effort. I am NOT one of these people - but I have a pretty good handle on finding common sense solutions for problems - both simple and complicated. Take a little time to figue out your learning style, what kind of environment you learn in best. It may also help to find a buddy that you can study with.
Some people may be intelligent - and gifted. So what... anything worth having is worth working for. Besides learning is not a bore if you can find a way to make it fun. You can also give yourself a goal - and plan to reward yourself if you do well. Worry less about what you don't have, and more about what you would like to work for.

Do Something You Love And You'll Never Work A Day in Your Life.

One more add here: Video games are not all bad - some actually can increase eye hand coordination as well as the ablility to improve reading comprehension - sure there are "junk" games - but there is a lot of junk on TV and on the NET. Choose stuff that challenges you.

That is something I asked myself all the time growing up. I excelled in lit and history, and busted my butt with mathmatics and most forms of science. After I graduated from highschool I learned I was dyslexic with numbers.
I have also found thru my own children each person excels in their own different way. One is gifted at mathmatics and plays video games in any spare time he has, but he has excellent common sense and logic.
My eldest daughter is book smart, but a complete lame brain when it comes to logic or anything that dosen't require book learning or smarts.
My five year old is extremely intelligent in learning anything that is hands on, and retains what information she gleans from that learning.
My elder brother is "book smart," but has some trouble learning just day to day things and remembering how to do that, where as my little brother is intelligent in both ways.
Intelligence cannot be measured, I believe, truely by educational means. Intelligence varies from person to person, and although it may not be apparent on the surface, if thrust in a specific situation you find that you know more than what you thought. Intelligence is how you put your knowledge to use in my opinion.
You gain knowledge through studying and reading. Intelligence is how you put that knowledge to use. Intelligence comes with time and maturity for some. Intelligence is the strength of you natural gifts.
You have to learn who you are, where your strengths lie, and thru hardwork both acadimaically and life experince wise you'll gain intelligence.

When I first started I looked in the mirror as I write my responses to these posts and ponder that same question...why can't people be smart as I am? Over time I've looked at the answers and see that they are truly smarter than I am. So I've stopped looking in the mirror months ago.

One word. LIFE. Observe and learn from life through the people you meet as well as your own experience. Because in the end it will depend on your own intelligence and knowledge that will help you out in life.

Of course reading and studying can help you also for jobs and just useful for knowledge that may come in handy one day.

I think certain intelligence is a gift. Most gifts are something you are born with. Like singing. Never get gifts and talents mixed up. Now you may gain intelligence from studying and reading. But real intelligence is a gift. No one can just teach you how to be smart or how to singing beautifully. I mean you can, but is it really as good as someone who was born with the gift? Find your gift. everyone has one you just have to find it. Watch this movie named " A Beautiful Mind."

Good question. What is the similarity between a great musician and a great engineer or scientist? They are both equally intelligent, but just in different fields. I believe that all human beings are born with unbelievable potential and intelligence and skill. The problem is that many doesn't recognise and develop their skills and that their circumstances might prevent someone from becoming his or her real self.

nicely... some toddlers are born with Down Syndrome or are basically mentally retarded (psychological retardation is defined as IQ score lower than 70 to seventy 5) because of GENETICS (about 5 p.c. of psychological retardation is led to by ability of hereditary aspects) yet maximum psychological retardation is with regards to prenatal diseases and subject matters (like fetal alcohol syndrome) and environmental aspects (like overlook/poverty which will reason irreversible gaining knowledge of impairments) answer: there's a genetic courting between psychological retardation (intelligence) so hence it stands to reason that "some everybody is unquestionably smarter than others" for the straightforward reason that those human beings were no longer born retarded. i have blanketed a link to a chart with better data in case you'll care to view it.

There are certain mental skills that are more developed in some people than in others. Skills like attention, mindfulness, equanimity, memory and concentration are what enable some minds to process and manipulate information more efficiently than others. All of these faculties can be enhanced through mental cultivation.

While some of intelligence has been proven to be genetic, a lot of people's "smarts" comes from how they were raised. Kids who played a lot of video games without doing much reading turn out to be "less smart" than kids who read and whose parents encouraged them to do mentally challenging things.

If you want to be smart, you have to work at it. People aren't born dumb or smart, they become dumb or smart. I'm sorry to have answered your question in a way you didn't want me to, but it's true.

Some people are born that way. Einstein, for example, was found to have more gluons in his brain. That gave him a particular advantage. It's just genetics and it also helps when you are raised in a certain environment. People who are raised in a naturally depressed environment are not able to focus on gaining knowledge, rather they struggle just to survive. Once you have met your most basic needs, you are able to then focus on higher pursuits.
