Well, because it makes us all killers, when we support it. In addition, we make mistakes and execute innocent people, and there are no do-overs with the death penalty. Also, the person who is given the death penalty has family, who are innocent of any wrong doing in the crime, and they are traumatized and hurt by the execution of their loved one. We make victims of the convicted person's parents, spouse, children, and extended family when we execute someone. I think life plus one year without the possibility of parole is an adequate punishment for the worst crimes.

You don't have to sympathize with criminals or want them to avoid a terrible punishment to ask if the death penalty prevents or even reduces crime and to think about the risks of executing innocent people. Your question is much too important to settle without answers to these.
124 people on death rows have been released with proof that they were wrongfully convicted. DNA is available in less than 10% of all homicides and isn’t a guarantee we won’t execute innocent people.
The death penalty doesn't prevent others from committing murder. No reputable study shows the death penalty to be a deterrent. To be a deterrent a punishment must be sure and swift. The death penalty is neither. Homicide rates are higher in states and regions that have it than in states that don’t.
We have a good alternative. Life without parole is now on the books in 48 states. It means what it says. It is sure and swift and rarely appealed. Life without parole is less expensive than the death penalty.
The death penalty costs much more than life in prison, mostly because of the legal process which is supposed to prevent executions of innocent people.
The death penalty isn't reserved for the worst crimes, but for defendants with the worst lawyers. It doesn't apply to people with money. When is the last time a wealthy person was on death row, let alone executed?
The death penalty doesn't necessarily help families of murder victims. Murder victim family members across the country argue that the drawn-out death penalty process is painful for them and that life without parole is an appropriate alternative.
Problems with speeding up the process. Over 50 of the innocent people released from death row had already served over a decade. If the process is speeded up we are sure to execute an innocent person.

Capital punishment is common in Arab Countries. It comes under their sharia ( religious law.followed by the muslims)
Other countries rarely punish convicts with death penalty.
Crime rates like murders, killings with the intention of revenge
etc., may increase , if capital punishment is totally abolished.

Because some times the court can make mistakes and death is irreversible for the convict. Also, it is felt that human life is the gift of God and no human created machinery (like a court) can take away the life of another human.

Innocent people are executed; it is unfairly administered in that the poor are far more likely to be executed and minorities are far more likely to be executed; it has no deterent effect.
And for we Christians: The Gospels only mentions capital punishment once (indirectly.) This is when Jesus comes upon the woman about to be stoned (legally and justly under Jewish Law) and says "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Something to think about.

It should not. It is a deterant to future violent crimes. When you know that you face the death penalty, you will not be as likely to do violence.

I agree, people will think twice before doing something stupid, unless they have a deathwish already, the only thing i dislike its that we have to pay taxes, that are keeping the people waiting for the death penalty alive.....Peace....

we should kill more people i think. all violent crimes should be punishable by death including rape, child molestation and kkidnapping, and also after like 2 or 3 drug offenses. because if you havent been rehabilitated after 3 trips to prison your not going to get better, your only a detrement to society. Most people in prison are there for repeat offenses like drug dealing. maybe if we killed people for things like that we wouldnt have crime as high as we do. bring back old school justice.
