I want to read some of Edgar Allen Poe's stories, but I don't want to get so scared I wet my pants. Which ones are good for 13 yo's?

Although Poe is often thought of as a horror writer, his stories aren't actually horror by modern standards. They are actually pretty tame compared to what we think of as horror today. Thus, any of Poe's stories would be good - they're more like Rod Serling's Twilight Zone stories - strange and with twisted endings.

Try "The Devil in the Belfrey." Despite it's name, it's not all that scary. Also "Some Words with a Mummy," "A Tale of Jerusalem," and "Four Beasts in One" aren't at all scary. Some that are scary but shouldn't cause you to wet your pants are "The Masque of the Red Death" and "The Cask of Amontillado." And when I was about 10 I was read "The Tell-tale Heart" without it causing me to wet my pants. Personally it is scarier than "The Mask of the Red Death" and ":The Cask of Amontillado."

Try Hop Frog or the Tell-Tale Heart.

The Cask of Amontillado is not terrible either.

The Raven poem is good, and I don't think it'll make you wet your pants.
