Oh man, the 8am grind has probably got to be rough. Getting to sleep at night can often be a tough thing to do that's for sure. Whenever I go to bed and I want to quiet all the thoughts going on in my head, it helps me to think about nothingness. Literally, I think of a black slab, and mentally I just repeat the word "nothing" in the background. Then, because something in the background will always tend to catch my attention, I try to systematically shut down all my senses, and focus on my breathing, repeating "nothing", and lying in a comfortable position. Ignoring the clock is also pretty important, as it will get you thinking again about time (but what you don't know can't hurt you in this case).

In terms of waking up, whenever I have to get up early I remind myself that I will not be as tired if I wake up with a positive attitude instead of "Aw, this is way too early." Time's what you make of it, it doesn't rule anything but what you want it to.

As for medicine, it'll work for awhile, but sooner or later you're gonna have to figure out mentally that you want to do it. It'll be much easier when you figure out yourself rather than let something dictate your mood.

This has woorked for my husband and I for years. We bought a sound machine (find them a Target,Walmart, online, etc.). It has differernt sounds to choose from. We both liked the ocean wave sound. As soon as we hear it, our bodies and minds completely relax, and we are asleep in minutes. It even works for our dogs. Extra benefits is you don't hear the creaks and cracks of your house settling-just blocks of all those irritating little noises that can wake ya up so easy. We even take it with us when we travel. It puts you in a very zen like state, and your are completely relaxed. We use to be full headed, remembering all we did, didn't do etc. This amazing machine has stopped all that, and now we have peaceful sleep. I storngly suggest it, you'll feel like a new person in about a week!Only suggestion I have for waking up is a loud, obnoxious alarm clock! that's all that workd for me. Hope this helped!

One of the very best ways is to exercise your body. If you sit around all day, you do not burn any of the calories, and calories is what more or less gives you energy. Also you need to teach your mind how to relax. I have a very good way that I do it. This may or may not help you, read the Bible. Then relax and ask for God's help to not be anxious about the day that is coming.. You don't benefit yourself when you worry about the next day. It just keeps your brain thinking.. Also there are some wonderful CD's called relaxation, and massage that are at Wal-Mart. Only soft music.. Hope that works for you, it did me. Mary

If you're thinking a lot, a good way to keep your mind from looping is to get out a writing tablet (you don't need anything fancy) and just start writing. You don't need to think about what you're writing, don't worry about grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. When you write you're getting it out of your head and onto paper.

You'll adjust to the time difference! Give yourself a little time! Congrats on the new job!

to fall asleep,..think of the color solid BLACK! Just close your eyes and focus on the darkness of your eye lids and nothing else. To wake up, put your alarm 15 mins. prior to the time you should get out of bed. This gives you 15 mins. to motivate yourself to get up and out. Once you make it a habit everyday will get easier and easier. This is what helps me so,...good luck!

this is the wierdest thing but it works - think of having sex with the person who you would never have sex with - someone ugly and horrible, and it will bore you to death and you will fall asleep
