no not yet they are the 2nd youngest team in the league and there is still room for improvement i think they need a new point guard derek fisher is good but the point guards now are fast like tony parker and chris paul. also they could use a small forward luke walton is a bench player not a starter. if a few years they will be an elite team when farmar and banyum get older and more muture

i have been a lakers fan for over 8 years. They are not going to become an elite team, unless they get depth at all the positions. Bynum has been playing well, but needs to still play better. The lakers have made some pretty bad trades in the past, like the shaq deal, and trading Caron butler now an all-star and Chucky Atkins, for pathetic Kwame Brown. They need to make a smart trade this time to get someone good like Jason Kidd, Ron Artest, Jermaine O'Neil, and other players. They should of gotten rid of bynum last year to get Kidd. They keep on making stupid moves. The lakers have a long way to become an elite team, especially with strong forces in the west such as San Antonio, Dallas, Phoenix, and many more. They are a long way from a championship because of teams like the celtics and the magic, who have great all around teams. The first step is to get someone with kobe, or if not trade him.

They will become an elite team when they make a good trade to get someone that compete for making points with Kobe Bryant. He is basically the only one making the plays, besides sometimes Odom.

Right now they are barely a playoff team and should not be considered one of the elite teams. I would say they are more than one player away and I am a Lakers fan.

No. They need to take care of the ball better - they have too many turnovers. Also, they need to "get down and grub" (as we used to say) on defense. It seems no one on the team is willing to put forth a lot of effort on the defensive end.

Kobe has changed his play and is including his teammates and that's a step in the right direction. Now he needs to lead by example and put in more defensive effort. So far this season his defense has been average at times and horrific as a rule. The rest of the team just follows his lead.

they are possibily within striking distance. they would have to make at least a pretty good rade to be considered a elite team though.
