I know that there are some privatized airports in Europe, but airports in the US are usually run by cities and counties. Do they actually make a profit, or do they need taxpayer subsidy in order to survive?

Airports earn income from the terminal fees being paid by every passenger and from concessionaires operating in the airport terminal.

Depends on whether the passengers can afford to buy plane tickets, with return tickets or just one way ticket or do the prefer to sit on wheel compartment or passenger seat after currency conversion. If all of them buy tickets and sit in as valid passenger on the flight likes to visit a peaceful country, then it is "Yes". Please do not be angry of me for being honest, its just the currency value of your own country who makes one person rich and will never ever repeg their national currency for decades that made you sit on the wheel compartment and the airport security on illegal boardings and are they coming for peace or stir politics making riots
Please do not blame me, blame it on the currency never been revalued for decades and centuries
