I have read all the answers so far and they have a point.
Buttttt!
I am not rich. A little more money would be great!
But I am happy just the same. I have had one heck of a good life. Done almost anything that I could think of to do in my life and enjoyed all of it. Yea having lot of money seems like it would make all better in life but I disagree!
It comes down to who you are and what you are that really really matters!
Money is just a material thing and it is very very insecure.
It can change day to day according to what you do and what life has planned for you.
The main fact is you just got to be happy with who you are and what you are and go on from there. If money is involved then it needs to be a secondary thing in your life. Only time will tell you the true answer to this question then you can decide who is right!

Someone once said, "Money can't buy happiness, but it sure
makes life easier!" And that is so true. We all know that you
can't buy good health, nor can you buy real love. I think it's
just the 'luck of the draw' that enables us to have good or bad
health, and also finding or not finding that perfect mate. And
sometimes, it's purely based on choices. The roads we
choose to take. I often wonder had I made different choices
when I was young, would I have been plagued with ill health
today. I probably would, since I'm following in my fathers'
footsteps. So I feel I was predisposed strongly. But had I
had the financial means to live extremely well, then perhaps
I could have lived a different lifestyle with a live in cook to
help me eat healthier. Or a trainer to help me be fit. Of course,
nothing could help the rear ender I got involved in last year.
So anyone can be hit by another car and have the achey
breakies for the rest of their lives. In any case, I'd rather have
financial security to help me afford the care I need. And then,
my hubby could take off to see a little villiage in Mexico that's
turned into an artist colony he's wanted to visit, ever since
seeing the movie, Once Upon a Time, in Mexico with Antonio
Bandaras. We all must have our dreams LOL.

Money buys things. Happiness is not a thing but a feeling and it's free. You just need to decide to have it.
If money could really buy happiness, why do so many very wealthy people live very unhappy lives?
Now, having said all that, remember this .... money won't make you happy but the complete lack of it will sure make you unhappy.

Money CAN buy happiness, it's just not the same as inner joy.
Happiness has to do with the outside world. It may not be the answer to everything, but you sure do sleep better at night.
Joy, well, nobody gave it to you so nobody can take that away because it's more of an attitude of the inner person.
You can be happy and have a lot of money and things and freedoms and opportunities, but not have joy. That comes from the inner person.

It depends, really.
Money can buy almost everything, period, even happiness.
I would be happy if I can buy that $3000 notebook and that $8000 villa and $.... etc. See?
But money still can't buy a TRUE happiness (and what is true happiness??? I don't have a single clue).
Now what if the world's doomed? No food, no civilization, no rules? Kill or be killed, the strongest rules all. I think money would be useless then ^_^

Money will never be able to buy lasting happiness. Having money and buying material things is a rush. After the rush it is back to earth we go. Happiness can only be found within yourself, then the people around you will be happy also. Happiness makes you love, money can turn a person to stone.

Having the means to survive is a necessity; and so for most of us money is a necessity-a necessary evil. Happiness is one of the ways we respond to life. Some of us don't feel happy no matter how much we have or don't have. Some of us feel happy no matter what. Most of us get along day-to-day and have periods of feeling happy. Money can provide security, flexibility and perhaps more opportunities to feel happy, but I don't think money can buy happiness-happiness is something we find within ourselves when we respond to the world around us.
If money could buy happiness my oldest daughter would have moved home to save money instead of struggling along on her own. She could have lived with us rent-free, but chose to tough things out on her own.....and she is happy about her accomplishment.

You ask far better questions than I ever will. Thanks.
I think it does when it comes to giving for other peoples causes. That's where I get most of my happiness with money. I have all I need. My son has all he needs and then some, so I'm teaching him the giving and caring way. (That usually involves money in one way or another). The results make us happy.
EDIT -- Howcome you don't have an avatar???

It can. Sort of. Money can buy happiness to a point. That point being when a person has an amount sufficient enough to take care of 6the necessities of living-i.e. food, clothing, shelter, transportation, family. Beyond that it can be just the opposite--grief and aggravation. just look at celebrities and sports stars.
