Absolut is the preferred brand, followed by Smirnoff. Absolut comes in different flavors. And normally it is just mixed with tonic water or Sprite (and ice, of course).

There are some local brands of vodka, those produced by Lucio Tan's companies. I saw them advertised, but I can't remember now. They would be good enough for mixes, and would definitely be cheaper than Absolut or Smirnoff.

And I also saw an omnibus San Miguel ad featuring their lesser known brands, one of which is a vodka. That, too, would be cheaper.

I don't remember seeing any local vodka in the Philippines, and I have to agree with Wife I - lambanog isn't even close to it. You will most likely have to buy some imports.

My advice - do not mix vodka. That's how you get hangovers. Chill it and drink shots. You can chase it with some non-alcoholic drink, beer (if you can handle it:) or some salty/sour foods.

If you only have a choice between Smirnoff and Absolut, I'd say go with Smirnoff. It's cheaper and has more flavor. Absolut is too smooth for my taste.

Lambanog is lambanog, it can never replace vodka. I think there are other vodka products being sold in liquor shops. Check the malls or grocers.
