Attempt the uninstall in safe mode, then run the Norton Removal Tool:

In my spare time I test antivirus an antispyware programs for just about all the software companies in the world that use "beta testers", for these type of software.

REMOVE NORTONS IF YOU CAN FROM YOUR ADD/REMOVE. OR GO INTO A SAFE MODE WHEN YOU BOOTH BY KEEP CLICKING DOWN ON YOUR F8 KEY AND THEN REMOVE NORTONS.

Nortons when you go to the add/remove, you only think that Nortons has been removed from your system. You are actually left with over 375 fragments of Nortons glued to all of your files, folders and registry keys. (This in is self will cause serious conflict when you try to reinstal Nortons or any other antivirus program. The fragments have to be removed and it is total hell trying to remove them.

1) Go to search and type in Symantec and allow your pc to search. Everything that you find related to "Symantec", delete if possible.

2) Now delete Symantec and type in Nortons and let your pc search for everything found under Nortons. Delete all that you can.

3) Go to start, run and type in Nortons, and click on browse, click program files and delete any file that says Nortons, if the file does not say "write protected". Then it will not delete. Go back and type in Symantec and click on browse, program files and look for Symantec in your program files and try and delete.

4) If you consider yourself an expert with computers, you can go to start run and type in regedit and click on ok. Your registry keys will appear. Open "Hkey_Current User and open Software. Delete everything that says Nortons and Symantec. (Only do this if you know for sure what you are doing. If you delete the wrong registry keys you will have a really big problem with your system).

If you require additonal help because of any file that says it is "write protected after you have reboot and still will not delete then contact me and I will give you a software program to download that is free with indepth instructions from me on how to delete a "write protected program".

Nortons in my opinon is a resource hog. Not very good at ever detecting any viruses or even destroying them. All they are good for is very slick marketing skills.
