Fahaka puffers generally do better in 78 to 82 but cold in fish talk is 55 below northern atlantic fish like green puffer can go lowest 70 degrees cause even though there in cold weather they go deep in the ocean in winter time where water is much warmer so keep all puffers 75 highest maybe 83 start at brackish water and weakly add maybe 1 oz of salt till it reaches 1.0022

This would depend on the species you have in mind. One thing about all types, is they tend to be territorial, and will be aggressive as they mature. They tend to nip the fins of any fish in the tank with them, so they are best kept in a tank by themselves. All have specific dietary needs because of their tooth structure - their teeth are fused and grow throughout their lives, so you need to provide had foods (snails or shrimp with the shells on) so they can wear down the teeth on the shells. If they aren't able to do this and the teeth overgrow, the fish can die.

Some, like the Dwarf puffer can be kept in freshwater, but a lot of the ones you see for sale need to have some salt added to their tanks - how much again depends on the species - and ranges from a teaspoon or so per gallon, up to full saltwater conditions.

If you have a specific puffer in which you're interested, this is a good link to info about keeping them: http://www.thepufferforum.com
