even if the Patriots loose two games(currently losing to the Ravens) do you think they're a better team the Dolphins

Absolutely. The 72 Fins had the benefit of playing in a lousy division, and then once the playoffs hit where they had to play decent teams, they squeaked by with the largest margin of victory in those three games being only 7 points (in the Super Bowl). Today's players are significantly better athletes, while the offensive game plans are far more complex. No two players on that team could have covered Moss, let alone one. Even if the Pats do not win the Super Bowl with a perfect record, matching these two teams head to head would be a slaughter.

without question the Pats. here's why:

The 1972 Dolphins, while they deserve credit for their record, played one of the easiest schedules of all time, and they really weren't dominant. Their regular season opponents' win percentage was .396. That's a record between 5-9 and 6-8 in a 14 game schedule. Only two of their opponents finished with a winning record. And in their 3 playoff games their combined margin of victory for 3 games was 17 points. They never won by more than 7. The 1973 Superbowl was the lowest scoring in the history of the game, 14-7 over the Redskins.

So give them credit for running the table, but they were probably not as good as the '85 Bears or 4-5 other Giant, Browns, or Cowboys teams.

as for the players, they would be slow, small and weak now. There were no serious weight training programs then, and their MLB, Nick Buoniconti, played at 5'11" and 220 pounds. That's a big safety today. Larry Little their stud on the O line, was 6'1", 265. Bob Griese's passer rating is lower than Trent Green's.

I doubt they could beat today's Dolphins. Seriously.

So next time you see Mercury Morris talking like they were the best of all time, you can wonder whether all that coke he went to jail for permanently damaged his reasoning ability.

here's a link to their schedule.

Even if you took the 72 Dolphins in theirs prime, you have to go with the Patriots of today. Players are just stronger and faster than they were 35 years ago.

Most of the 72' Dolphins are in their mid-50s now. My money would be on the Patriots.

Well since the seasons not over yet, I would go with the 72 Dolphins. Good team back then. IF New England goes undefeated then I would say New England. Players are more physical now then they were back then.
