My last pap smear came back abnormal, when I've had previous ones that were perfectly fine. The nurse said I didn't have HPV, but she sounded serious on the phone and kept asking 'are you ok with all this', like I'd know what to even think of it. I'm getting a colposcopy in a few weeks, and I need to know a few things by anybody who's gone through this before. I'm worried about having cervical cancer, but right now I'm just trying not to think about it til they do it. When they take a tissue sample, are they sticking a knife up in my vagina? And if I don't have HPV, why would the cells be abnormal? Also, I'm pregnant, and I'm worried if this can hurt my baby girl. Can someone give me some advice?

If this helps I've only had 1 sex partner, and I was raped by one person but I had a pap smear after that incident and it was normal. Please don't give me pity I'm a big girl and I realized a while ago that it's not my fault. I just need to know what's going to happen, I'm worried. Thanks

I don't smoke, and I don't use creams, lubes, douches, or anything like that.

My case was a little different than yours. I started spotting 17 years after having a partial hysterectomy after the birth of my last child . As in NO periods for over 17 yrs. I had cervical Cancer.
But caught quickly and having a radical hysterectomy to take out the rest of the 'plumbing' and I have been Cancer free for 7yrs.
The important thing for you is that your pregnant now. They won't do anything to hurt the baby. When the nurse kept asking if you were ok with this, that is when you should have been asking questions. You can call your doctor and request that he/she give you a call after hours because you have lots of concerns to talk about.
I hope everything turns out ok for you and your baby girl.

I had an abnormal pap once and my dr did a colposcopy too. If it happened again(abnormal pap), I would wait a month and go get another pap before I let them do a colposcopy. I was pregnant verrry Early then and didn't know it. My son was born with a serious heart problem. The dr said it wasn';t because of that, but I will never know for sure and everything turned out to be normal anyway. Also my pap smears since then have been normal., I gave my daughter the same advice. Wait and have the pap repeated. Besides a colposcopy is an excision of cervical tissue and it seems like it could cause problems during a known pregnancy. (I didn't know I was pregnant when I had mine done.)

Don't freak out just yet. You don't know what you are freaking out about. Alot of things can cause abnormal cells. But they can return to normal soon. Infections, hormones and such can all contribute.

A colposcopy is not a pleasant experience, but isn't a horrible one either. It's just uncomfortable because someone is staring inside of you with a magnifying glass so they can see. In terms of equipment, just a speculum- just like a pap. If they need to do a biopsy, they take a small tool and cut a small section of cells out. They numb it first, and sometimes you feel a slight pinch. Sometimes it hurt, like a cut, but nothing major and then it's over.

After the colposcopy, especially if you have a biopsy, you may have some light spotting for a day or two. But try not to freak out until the results come back, as hard as that is to do.

I have had a few abnormal paps. You are probably fine. Could be a jump in your yeast or some crazy hormonal thing. The scope is like a pap, a little longer time wise and little more invasive. It's not painful, I do not believe the use knives, just taking a very small sample. Might feel a little pinch. If the doctor was truley worried you would have been brought right back in for the scope, they wouldn't have waited a few weeks. Especially since your pregnant. If it's stressing you out, I would call the doctor and tell them that it's stressful, can we take care of this now. They probably will accomodate. I hope everything turns out fine. I went through something similiar when I was pregnant. I had to have part of my cervix removed after the birth of my oldest son. It all worked out...I have 3 sons total. :) Take care.

I had this happen right after I had my son. The colposcopy was weird but painless, the worst part is all the stress. I then had a LEEP which burned off all the abnormal cells, I still had abnormal pap for about six months after, but now everyhtin is fine. Dont worry about cancer, those cells dont come back as abnormal they come back as C-1, C-2 and so on. Abnormal could be a million things including the person reading the test wasnt 100% positive so marked it abnormal to be safe. Just realax, you will be fine, and so will the baby

they will take a small tissue sample just a little piece of skin. It will hurt, witch my Dr. didn't tell me,there will be some spotting. they use a small instrument ,not a big knife. There quite a few reasons that a pap can come back bad the most common is an infection, like a yeast infection, the small amount of the sample will not affect the baby. Don't be afraid to ASK any questions that you have to either the nurse of the Dr.

I had a colposcopy when I was pregnant with my first child due to an abnormal papsmear. It was only a microscope to look at the cervix closely to see if there was a problem. What you are talking about sounds like a biopsy which they tend to try and wait until you have had the baby to do. Generally if you smoke you have a chance of abnormal paps. Mine turned out to be nothing when I was checked out. I can honestly tell you it didn't hurt and I don't think they will do the biopsy till you have had the baby unless they feel its absolutely necessary.

It could be your pregnancy that's caused the abnormal pap. Also, if you had sex within two days of your appointment. You can get abnormal smears from lube, creams, douche, etc. They won't stick a knife in your vagina. It'll likely be like a regular smear except they'll scrape a little harder with that ever-so-pleasant brush thinger-ma-doodad. If you're really concerned, make a sooner appointment. :)

First of all stay calm. Stress can cause more damage. If you do not have HPV, it may be from the pregnancy. Approximately 98% of the time, these turn out to be CIN 1, which is nothing to worry about. Most likely you will go through your pregnancy like normal, and then they will do a freezing procedure on your uterous to remove the abnormal cells.

I changed somewhat over a yr in the past. No, I do not put on hijab. I have no idea if I will, it will depend on plenty of matters, and it is a individual determination I do not think I have to protect. I do get dressed modestly, and I began this immediately, although it was once no longer a huge difference for me besides. I think at peace, so far as faith is going, as there are plenty of principal questions I've had that have been responded. I think at peace in realizing I'm at the proper course, and that this course isn't whatever I query so far as fact is going. As for being extra peaceable myself, that is rough to mention. I've by no means particularly been the reverse of this... however I bet I could say sure, the best way I believe and act in the direction of others might no less than be extra respectful, which would even be stated as being peaceable. I are not able to particularly say how lengthy it took me earlier than I changed. I knew as quickly as I started studying the Quran it was once proper. Of path, I advised myself I could learn all of it earlier than I made the determination. It took a couple of months earlier than I'd gotten by way of a few of the Quran, and earlier than I allowed myself to take shahadah, however particularly I by no means regarded if it was once proper as I knew it was once from the establishing. Or I bet I must say my middle did not want attention, I quite simply made up our minds the rational factor to do could be wait somewhat even as earlier than my mouth spoke the phrases my middle already knew.
