This truly is for a friend, I am 32 weeks pregnant and do not need to know my chances of being pregnant lol.

A friend of mine, who is unfortunatly only 15 (that makes it hard for her to go to a doctor to talk with) had sex on Friday night, while on her period. They used a condom but it did break.

She is know freaking out because she knows how her family would react. Her 18 year old sister just had a baby 2 months ago and her older sister is now pregnant. Her mother is upset at them and they are older. She is terrified she could be pregnant.

So, what are her chances? Are they raised because she was on her period?

Your period doesn't stop or help you get pregnant. If you're going to get pregnant, you just will. Despite what the young ladies on this forum are saying, menstruation is NOT a form of birth control. Your friend is freaking out because she was irresponsible and can't deal with the consequences. Especially since her sisters got pregnant young, she should understand the risks involved. It seems that fertility at a young age runs in her family, so maybe she should refrain from sexual activity until she's ready to accept the responsibility that comes with potentially creating a new life. Mommy's displeasure should be the least of her worries; there are far more important things at stake here.

EDIT: Someone suggested the morning-after pill. This person has obviously never taken it or spoken to someone that has. Anyone considering this should be VERY aware of the terrible things this drug and others like it do to your body. It's not some easy cure-all. It works by forcing every system in your body to purge, not just your uterus. It makes you terribly sick, and there's only so many times you can do it without potentially causing permanent harm to your body. Ask your doctor first and FIND OUT what the drug you want to take does. Being embarassed or ashamed is stupid. If it was that big a deal, you wouldn't have put yourself in this situation in the first place. Be wary of the choices you make for your body and what can happen.

Her chances of being pregnant after having sex while on her period are smaller than usual (I'd say 'not very likely' personally), but they still exist. It is unfortunate that she waited to tell you, as it is past 72 hours and Plan B (aka the Morning After Pill) is no longer likely to be effective.

Unfortunately, it's a bit of a waiting game now, as a pregnancy test won't be accurate until her period is due.

She's lucky to have a good friend like you. I hope you take this as a good time to sit her down and talk to her about the responsibilities that come along with being sexually active.

It's possible — but highly unlikely. You'd have to have a very short menstrual cycle, which is the time from the first day of one period to the first day of the next period, or a tendency to have long periods. This would bring the time of ovulation closer to the time when you would start bleeding.
An egg can survive in your fallopian tube for about 24 hours after it's released from the ovary. So the only way you can get pregnant is if sperm are present in your fallopian tube during this window of opportunity. If the egg isn't fertilized, it's shed along with your uterine lining during your period.

The chances of getting pregnant on her period are EXTREMELY unlikely. Ovulation doesn't occur until 4-10 days after the period finishes. Especially with the use of a condom, I think your friend has nothing to worry about.

Also, even if she was pregnant, she would not know yet. It has only been a few days and way too early to tell.

Yes, you can potentially get pregnant if you have sex during your period but its still a less chance of getting pregnant than having sex otherwise. Sperm can survive for days inside your reproductive tract. So say you have sex towards the end of your period, but ovulate only a few days later, ovulation is close enough to unprotected sex, that you are pregnant.

A pregnancy test is the best way to tell if you are pregnant or not. Though you must wait until you miss your next period to get the most accurate results.

The chances of falling pregnant while on your period are next to impossible because there isn't a egg in the correct position in which to be fertilised. Hence the period.

My mother, older sister, and a couple of friends ALL got pregnant while on their periods.

That friend should shut her legs and wait til she's older. Who the hell does she think is going to raise her kid? Her boyfriend-of-the-month certainly won't, and she can't afford to continue being an idiot.

Be a real friend, and advice her to stop being foolish before she gets pregnant.

She's made a HUGE mistake by not immediately taking the morning after pill. It may still be within 72 hours of her having sex, so she should still take one as soon as possible, although the chances of it working aren't nearly as high. As it is, the chances are lowest because it was during her period, but there's always a chance.

her chances are low because you period is when your body is flushing out the egg that did not fertilise and the layers of the uterus that was growing to make a bed for a fertilised egg if one was to present. This is what I learned in my medical assting class. My teacher explained this to us she is an Registered nurse.
