Why won't government fund stem cell research? Stem cell research is legal but it's privately funded for its research. I heard that the government won't fund it because they believe that it's immoral as well. Do they believe that because they also view it as murder or are there different reasons why they see it as immoral? Also, anything about President Bush and his veto last year would also be great (what was it, why he did it).

Any site sources at all would be greatly appreciated!!! I need a site that talks about why won't government fund stem cell research. Does it have to do with separation of church and state? Thank you so much1

Now that stem cells can be derived from sources other than human embryos, your wish will probably come true.

Although I'm certain many Dems are disheartened that this could dash their wishes for abortion on demand...

It's not true that embryonic stem cells come from aborted fetuses so let's not mix the two to push a political agenda. Those stem cells come from embryos that were created for infertile couples at fertility clinics. What I wonder is why those who are so dead set against using these stem cells for research aren't out there picketing fertility clinics. Most embryos created at these clinics are discarded anyway because they weren't deemed viable enough for implantation, the couples involved have decided they already have all the children they want and don't need any more, the frozen embryos have reached the end of their shelf life in cold storage, or the couples decide to give up after repeated failures. Why not put the embryos to good use instead of just dumping them down the drain like where most of them end up anyway? Also, if any medical breakthroughs result from this research, I doubt that those who opposed it would refuse the medical treatments if it meant saving their lives of those of their loved ones.

I think it's because Government Funding is tax payer funding and not every tax payer agrees with the idea of the research.
Personally I don't care but I can understand if some people do care.

Because Bush thinks that flushing left over embryos down the drain will help the republican party get votes from the religious right.

Its a party over people priority thing.
