Hey,

I'm working on a paper and I need to know what the chemical formula for the oxidation of galena (PbS) is?

I think the reaction would start:

PbS+O2--->_______ or
PbS+H2O--->______

but, I'm not sure.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

Pb is in the +2 state, since S is -2. Remember H2S?
Your first reaction will work, but not your second one. Lead Sulfide is not soluble in water.
Your first equation is only partly there since Lead sulfide requires both acidic conditions like Acetic Acid and an oxidizing agent (oxygen or peroxide)to disolve and become lead acetate.
