why was the usa allied with the SOVIET UNION, war criminals and communist oppressors, during WWII? The soviets were WAY worse than the nazis and the japanese imperials combined. soviets murdered more europeans than japan. then, after we used the atom bomb, the soviets marched into east asia and made north korea COMMUNIST. The Soviets were the only real bad guys as far as im concerned. they make the axis powers look like lemmings. isnt it true, that uncle sam was collaborating with the commies up until the 1980's?? its gotta be true.

The common enemy at the time was Nazi Germany and whilst its true the soviet regime was just as bad, it was not as widely known then as now. Also Churchill knew even before WW2 was over what threat there was from the communist so no we were not really fooled, by aiding the soviets against the germans more US and UK lives were saved than if we had to go it alone (i.e without the soviets)

Alliances of come out the necessity of a situation. The Soviet Union was not originally aligned with Great Britain and France in World War 2, however, Germany's invasion of Russia changed that. The US had been helping and supplying the Soviet Union even before we entered the war because we saw the Soviets as a clear way to check Hitler's power and help against the Nazis. The alliance certainly wasn't always friendly, and the quickness in which the Cold War started shows just how much each side mistrusted each other.

The US continues to work with "communists" to this day, China is a huge trade partner, and they are still a socialist government built originally by Mao. In both cases, while the US didn't necessarily agree with the countries policy deals were organized to mutually benefit both parties.

Just because a nation is socialist or communist it isn't necessarily bad or evil. Stalin was certainly a cruel and terrible ruler, but many nations (like Norway, Sweden, and much of Europe) employ socialist elements in their government and they enjoy great personal freedom and some of the best marks when it comes to world rankings.

Well, the Japanese attacked us and the Nazis were actively trying to take over Europe at the time. The USSR, also attacked by Germany, seemed to be the better ally until the war was over.

Because we were fighting someone that had attacked both us and the soviets. And as far as "collaborating" with the commies is concerned, just cause you say it it doesn't have to be true.

Cuz Hitler was an immediate threat who was more dangerous to us at the time.
Politics makes strange bedfellows.
If you share a goal (kill nazis) you form an alliance. Once your goal is reached, the alliance is over.
