Why don't people vote?

Don't you care about your future?

Isn't it our obligation to pick the best? Or at least, "not the worst"?

People make all kinds of excuses not to vote, some of those excuses you already see here.

The main ingredient is apathey. They just feel like the system is corrupt, and voting is redundant. Some blame the electoral college, and feel their vote is irrelevant, since their state is already entrenched in the support of one party over the other.

Of course, not voting only makes the situation worse. As it stands now, many moderates and independents do not get involved in the process, so we see both parties catering to special interest groups and energizing their bases.

The voice of moderation, reason and pragmatic thinking becomes muted, instead we get idealogy, pandering to one extreme political philosophy over the other and a lot of push-button topics on the ballot.

We will remain a polarized and partisan nation, until the apathetic non-voters find candidates and issues of their own to rally around and get them to the voting booth. Right now, only the extreme-left and extreme-right in this country are being attended to.

Sometimes, life's schedule is too busy to get away for an hour to vote, or your work schedule F's you over so you can't make it out to the polls.

But the worst problem in any voting, is an uninformed voter. The one's voting like it's a popularity contest such as in a high school election. Whatever happened to getting the facts, doing your research and homework to justify your reasoning for voting. Voting for one vs. the other shouldn't be based on who's the lesser of 2 evils, but on which their principles will better all.

For the presidential elections, everyone's got their "big stand points" on which to vote for him. You have Obama (he's black), Clinton (she's a woman), Guiliani (Mr. 9/11). All of that makes absolutely no sense whatsovever. I'm voting for one who plans on ridding us of a bunch of nonsense, and to return this Republic back to the ways of the Constitution. I'm voting Ron Paul. He's got the most conservative voting record, has never taken a junket (bribe), stickler of the Constitution, and one who stands for liberty, freedom, Pro-Life, Pro-Sovereignty, Pro-2nd Amendment, and one kick A$$ guy!!!

people dont vote because you vote really dosnt count for president. the electoral college accually votes for him.. for example bush lost the popular vote against gore. but because bush had more electorial votes he won. gore ended up appealing to the supreme court about this issue. Another reason is that some people just dont trust politicans and or just dont care so they let the other people make their choices for them

You infer something that's not true. People don't vote largely because they don't see their votes affecting anything. They're right individually, but wrong in the aggregate.

Because they have been conditioned to think material things matter (the mall, their car, etc.) more than making real decisions that will affect their lives.

People vote all the time.....in fact Democrat voters are the best all-time voters...they even vote when they are DEAD.
