One of the Tenchi series, (Tenchi Muyo, Tenchi Universe, and Tenchi in Tokyo) im almost certain.

There are a bunch of anime shows with one guy living with a bunch of girls. In fact, it has it's one genre in anime called Harem (this usully means the girls are all living with him- but at the very least it means a bunch of women are chasing after him).
We would need more information than that.
HOWEVER, the Tenchi Series did air on Cartoon Network then, and Love Hina has never aired on that station. So if you are certain it aired on CN then it is highly likely it was one of the Tenchi (Tenchi in Tokyo, Tenchi Universe, etc).
If it didn't air on Cartoon Network, we are going to need more details.

You know if you ask me... it does like Love Hina BUT!!!! The girls were not fighting over him... it sounds more like Tenchi Muyo.
yup it sounds more like that than love hina... cuz in Tenchi Muyo all the girls fight over him.
