It depends if the baby is breastfed or not. Breastfed babies typically eat more frequently and will wake up during the night more. A baby under 12 months needs about 16 hours of sleep in the 24 hour period - so if he sleeps longer during the night, his nap times will be shorter and vice versa. A 7 month old should sleep about 11-12 hours at night. Your best bet to have the baby sleep longer is to establish a good nighttime routine - see suggestions on CafeYak.com in the Baby section. If you do have to have night time feedings, which you still might at 7 months, dim the lights and make it as brief as possible so your baby can go back to sleep. Occasional night wakefulness is normal - we all wake up at night now and then - your baby may be able to go back to sleep without your help.

They should be getting around 14-16 hours of sleep per day. It all depends on the baby about sleeping through the night. My first still wakes up once in the middle of the night and she's 3, but my 1 year old has been sleeping through the night since she's been 3 months old. Good luck with you and your baby!!!

Many babies this age do not sleep through the night. Mine didn't manage that trick until she was over 2 and finished with teething.
Here's some good info on infant sleep issues:

My baby is 10 months old and she still wakes up to breast feed. I don't have the heart to let her sob for hours for a few nights in a row and then resign herself to sleeping the night through... I stay at home with her, so it's no trouble for me to get up and feed her...

this is continually no longer concern-free for individuals. I easily have been right here as have many others! you do no longer say what you have tried, whether it ought to be nicely worth attempting the ideas-set of letting your toddler cry for a jiffy earlier going to him. do no longer %. him up, merely relax your hand on him to reassure him you're there and gently sshh him. needless to say in case you need to tuck him in accomplish that or in case you think of the cry feels like he's discomfort then you certainly ought to ascertain him out. by way of now i'm presuming you already know the version in his cries. I specific as hell did!! He might wimper and deliver himself off lower back or if he's bellowing, then opportunities are high he has woken himself and desires the peace of mind. this is a sprint one as no mom likes to pay attention her toddler cry yet while he continually thinks all he has to do is cry and you will come working, this is putting you up for slightly a nightmare for the destiny! I hated listening to my boy cry , yet maximum commonly he could quiet down after a jiffy. i stumbled on that if i swaddles my boy it somewhat helped. this is type of previous formed now and an excellent type of individuals problem approximately over heating. you do no longer could wrap in lots a blankets, in basic terms a sheet to maintain his palms and legs all coccooned. This creates a feeling of convenience and being cuddled. examine the temperature of the room as this could even have an consequence. this is complicated paintings yet you will ultimately get him right into a recurring. that's what's significant as as quickly as a baby is right into a recurring they sense greater relaxed. stable success, and need you get a stable nights sleep!
