I have owned PC's and Apple products. I currently use a Macbook Pro with the intel chipset and I run Vmware with an installation of Windows XP. I only use XP for smaller apps that are not available for the Mac. I mostly use Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Firefox doing web design and SEO. Your comment about all the components being often built by the same manufacturer is true, but things like case quality and how the parts are assembled make a big difference. So I am a fan of Apple products and am not a Windows hater, but I can tell you that everyone I know that owns Windows machines have been victims of virus attacks and have lost data and sometimes had to pay for someone to get their computer cleaned up. I have never (in the 20 years running Apple machines) had a virus, worm, or trojan infect my computer which is why I am such a fan of my Mac. As for which brand of PC is better, I know several people who have been very happy with Dell, both in build quality and in customer service. That's my 2 cents - hope it helps!
