I have over 20 years in the Oil/Petroleum industry. All gasoline is the SAME. It is the additives that each refinery adds to make their gasoline good, better or best when compared to their competitors. You should be more concerned with reading your user's guide that came with your automobile and find out exactly what octane level is REQUIRED for your vehicle then follow that advice. The other rule is: DO NOT EVER fill up at a non-branded convenience store or gasoline station. Their gasoline may be cheaper but may also have stuff in it (mainly water) that you do not want in the tank of your automobile. If you must shop at these non-branded places start paying attention to "who" drops their gasoline. For example, here in San Antonio we see Mission Petroleum as the carrier dropping gasoline at non-branded stations. So, we can safely conclude their gasoline is of the same grade and quality to the one they drop at Valero (mother company). But to answer your question. Read sentence #2 and #3 above.

RE:
Do you think that SHELL gas is the best gas? If not, which gas company-Chevron, Exxon, etc.?

I been driving a loooooong time. Now I have a 12 yr. Ford Escape. I don't look at price but at Octane levels and additives. My SUV loves Shell Regular 87. The additives are a little lower than Exxon - 16.7 more or less and the price in my area (Virginia/DC) is about the same. Exxon Regular is 20 +. Don't know why but she just loves Shell. I get good mileage and have never had any problems...so let's keep going with Shell Regular. P.S: Word of advise....don't go with these nameless brands or discount gas. You'll end up paying more with repairs and bad performance. Go with the "Top Tier" brands.

I never could tell the difference between gas companies. However I did have a car that did not run as well on Chevron gas, so while I had that car, I didn't use Chevron.

Indeed, all three of these are what are called "integrated" oil and gas companies, not only producing upstream products (oil, gas, natural gas liquids) but also downstream products (gasoline, diesel, fuel oil) The firm not only refines (produces end product) but markets (gets the $50 to fill your tank!) But gasoline is also a wholesale market. Other refiners exist that do not have upstream (exploration and production ) capabilities. Many oil and gas companies have no refining capacity. For example, in the case of Exxon quoting from their 10-K: ExxonMobil has an ownership interest in 38 refineries, located in 21 countries, with distillation capacity of 6.3 million barrels per day and lubricant base stock manufacturing capacity of about 140 thousand barrels per day. ExxonMobil’s fuels and lubes marketing business portfolios include operations around the world, serving a globally diverse customer base. Hope that helps!

Is Shell Gas Better

Chevron uses the Techron additive which i have direct access to.

I use this chemical to shock treat engines for carbon deposits.

Hard to imagine, but its true.

I have been a professional engine builder/tuner for the last 22 years, and have seen the results first hand.

Yamaha also has a similar chemical for consumer purchase.

Sorry, but gas is gas. I get the same mileage whether it's the stuff from Cumberland Farms or it's Mobil.

I have tried multiple companies...I got the best mileage with Sunoco and the worst with Exxon (I usually get 400 miles/tank with Sunoco but I got only 180 with Exxon, all highway miles) Every car is different (I have an older Toyota) so you should try a few different companies.
