do ankle weights actually help you jump higher? I know this one guy from my school, and he wear ankle weights every basketball game he plays, well most of them. He's 6'3, and he can dunk. I can't really tell if the ankle weight worked on him, or it's just his height. The school net height is 10 ft, so it just the height nba use.

That will be a little hard on your knees so the better thing to do would be to get a weighted jacket.

I dont know what you guys are talking about. Just because one person says they are bad doesn't mean they are. Why would they even sell ankle weights if they were bad for you? The thing is with the ankle weights is that it's just like lifting normal weights. You dont get injured by lifting weight it helps build muscle because the extra force your using to bring your legs up. After you take them off you feel as light as a butterfly and it's much easier to do things. If you have weak legs dont use them. Thats all there is to it

Ankle weights are really more helpful for strengthening your knees when doing extensions. The biggest reason he can dunk is he is 6'3 and probably not overweight. Most of the explosive power in gettting off the ground comes from the calves and good body mechanics. I am 5'10 and could dunk volleyballs in H.S. and basketballs in college when I curled it with my forearm and wrist.
To clarify: Ankle weights are great for strengthening the knees in doing leg lifts and extensions only, and not for running around in. They add an unnatural and unneeded strain to regular running mechanics. For rehab from ACL reconstruction I had to use ankle weights alot to strengthen the knee.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.
Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.
A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.
Heal your ankle fully & fast?

You'd be better off using a weighted vest. You'd be less likely to hurt yourself, and it can definitely help you explode into your jump. Just remember not to use it while actually playing somebody, only while practicing.
There is also a technique to jumping, which you can find by using Google or the such.

Yeah it helps anytime you jump around with extra weight. We used to use a leaper in high school, it was a machine that put weight on your shoulders to help your vertical. Ive herd ankle weights are bad for your joints, who knows though, it will help if you use them regularly
