Well, scientists have been researching that...on plants. I know- weird. But still, they got some results!
Classical and violin music proved to be the most beneficial to plants (??to people??)
Rock music proved to be detrimental to your--sorry I mean plant's health.
Etc. etc.... if you want more details go ggggoogle it.
(maybe this is the reason I listen to classical music!!!)

It depends on the music. Music definately plays into emotions, thoughs, and sometimes even decisions! I have decided some stuff based on how I felt after listening to a song that had to do with the situation, not even realizing that it made me make that choice. Now, that doesn't always help you make a good choice, but it does something! Music is an emotional thing. It's self-expression, and if you can relate to it even the slightest bit, it can effect you in thousands of ways.

Music is one of the most powerful forces in the world. It can alter your moods from one extreme to another. I know that studies have been done where classic music has shown to effect the brain’s organization and abilities, through its melody and rhythm. The rhythm raises the level of serotonin produced in your brain. When the brain produces serotonin, tension is eased. In fact depression is a consequence of the scarce production of this hormone. Serotonin is released when the brain is “positively shocked”.

Music affects the brain in many ways...patterns of the brain have been linked to the music being heard, studies were mostly done with classical. But music improves our use of our brains...studies have shown that the grade point average of children who have studied an instrument or learned how to read music is higher than those who haven't. Enhancement to memory use and cognitive thinking are all enhanced throught the study and use of music.

Music creates an altered state of subconsciousness known as the Alpha state. The rhythms affect the neurological centers of the heart and mind, both. I saw a video on this topic and will try and come back with a link to it in just a sec....
K, here it is:

I think real music relaxes the brain.
But I heard the LOUD music or noise music, whatever that's called kills brain cells. Don't know if that's true. You could just do your research.

Certain bass frequencies can also induce hypnotic trances or wild mood depressions, thats why the gangsta rappers use so much monotonous bass in their sounds. It helps to get the coke heads and crack heads into the wrong headspace so they can zombie out for a few hours.

Depends on the genre. It helps me clean house...which I should be doing right now!
There is romantic, sad, dance, and death metal stuff. I think it definitely influences your brain!
