I notice little things about the way society treat black men. People are not as polite to blacks men, they do not so appreciation when assisted by black men....all these little things just show a general disrespect.

I am a black male who has been treated both fairly and unfairly. It depends on where you are.

I had to travel to Salt Lake City , UT two years ago and I met some of the nicest people I've ever talked to in my life. The trip was great. I did get searched at the airport though. That was depite the fact I was with a co-worker of Egyptian decent that looked Arabic. Win some and lose some.

Here at home in Atlanta, I get the bad end of the stick many times. I get followed in stores. Believe it or not, I get called 'boy' by some of the older people of another race. I just think they were raised that way and they don't know any better now.

I combat stereotypes by living my life through Christ the best way I know possible. I can't lose that way.

As for kids, I have one daughter. My wife and I love her and I am very involved in her life. I can echo the same comments about 90% of the black males I know.

However, the media will only show you the 10%. Those are the 10% that commit stupid crimes such as murdering an NFL player to rob his home.

The very unfortunate matter is most crimes that are reported in the media that are commited by a black person is viewed as something the whole race does. When another race commits a similar crime, it is viewed as an isolated incident. That's just my opinion but I've seen it first hand.

I've never seen anybody (except in the movies, or on Yahoo Answers) treat a black person any differently than a member of any other race, but maybe I'm just from a different area.

I disagree with you. I work with a lot of opposite race men. I am white, and they are black. I respect them for the excellent job they do and we really enjoy working together. Of course, I need to mention my work is in a hospital and both professional black men and non professional black men are treated well. I am from a predominantly all white community with all white schools and all white neighborhoods
In our hospital, we love our black physicians, housekeepers, and our transporters as well, not to mention, some of them are really hot!

All those things that Sammy said, don't apply to me, and I'm a black male. I don't speak gangsta talk. Frankly that kind of talk and dialect disgusts me and sends a clear message that someone is not educated, classy or sophisticated. I don't have a felony crime rate, I don't have any children, so I can't be accused of being a deadbeat dad as Sammy put it, and my socio-economic circles are that of UPPER MIDDLE CLASS.

To answer your question, people like to generalize, because it's easier as opposed to taking each statistic case by case. That would take far too much effort and work. That's why many black men don't get respect. Also the U.S.A. has a dark history of discrimination and violation of human rights when it comes to people of color.

I would also like to add that many of the things Sammy said applies to white males too, so what's his point?

Well, I don't know where you live, but where I live, what you say doesn't apply.

To get respect, you must also give it. People who are respectful, obey the laws, are courteous will be treated with respect....no matter what their race or ethnicity is.

Thugs, thieves, leeches on society will be treated with disrespect.....no matter what their race or ethnicity is.

You reap what you sow in our society.

I know white men hate black men, that is a fact. They are jealous of their huge gift to women. Something white men have to take pills for and still, they're no good.

people look at crime rate among black males, and their alarming lack of involvement with the children they father, not fair to the many fine black men, but thats how society works
